Default 270 cal Barnes xbt xlc ?????

I'm reloading for my 270 wsm, from what I read hear is that th ballistic tip bullets aren't the way to go for whitetail ( I understand they have a tendency to come-apart on close range shots ).So how about that little blue bullet made by Barnes, the 130 grain 270 xbt xlc ? how does that compare. My shots could be anyware between 50yds and 400yds. I have never loaded an all copper bullet before, so is there anything I need to know if I go with the XLC's. ( like powder difference or bullet seating from the lands ) Thanks for all the help, this is a good place to get great information. Thanks, Stevie.

I shot a deer with a .270 xbt, but not coated. One shot in the neck did the job. I like the Barnes bullets, just buy there book to reload, they have all the load data. I also have the xbt xlc for my 7mm mag, but I have'nt had the chance to shoot an animal with them.

The tsx will provide more reliable expansion.

I though the Triple Shock and the regular Barnes X were essentially the same when it came to terminal ballistics.

The tsx has a redesigned nose cavity to provide more reliable expansion.

Interesting. I may have to revisit this bullet. After some field testing in the late 90's, I kind of wrote off the X bullet as havingan abundance of penetration at the expense of a fairly small wound channel. At least in high velocity calibers from 6MM through .308. Good for shoulder shots and end-for-end shots, but not very effective for broadside rib shots. I guessthe new TSX is a little better balanced. . . . ?

Personnal experience with the Nosler BT 130 gr .270 has proved to be very reliable. I can't remember the count on the number of deer, both whitetail and mulies shot with this bullet. (55 gr of IMR4350, .270 Win). Only one whitetail and one mulie needed a second shot. Admitidly there was one time where the bullet fragmented but that was at extremely close range, like 10 - 15 feet on a buck that darn near ran me over. That was the whitetail that needed a second shot. The mulie that needed a finishing shot was shot initially at a ranged 437 yds. The first shot was at a steep upward angle and entered just above center of the chest taking out the right lung and close enough to disrupt the spine effectively incapacitating him. The second shot and a much closer distance finished him. My 700 shoots these bullets extremely well. The Barnes bullets are good bullets and I use them in my 30-06 and 300 Win mag. with excellent accuracy results. I haven't had the opportunity to take any game with these yet as I just started toying with them but I am sure they will perform well on game.
