Default RL22 powder for my 300 mag

I've been using IMR4350 in my 300mag with decent groups... I've read that IMR4350 is to fast burning powder for the round and I should be using a slower burning powder like RL22...

What doyou guys think???

Its a better choice in my opinion, that or 4831sc.

any of the 4350 powders is a bit fast for the 300 Mag....RL22 is a fine powder IMO.

It maybe on the fast side Mr Long, but I had great luck with it in a 300win years ago and 150gr loads for my 300RUM's. I was kicking 150 bullistic tips out at 3450fps out of my 300RUM.

They generally only recommend it for ligher bullets in the magnum calibers.

When I finally get my .300 WM back I'll probably start with RL22. I think 4350 will work, but I like something that fills more of the case. RL22 and H4831sc should be about right.

Although not quite as speedy as some of the slower powders, I have gotten very good accuracy several times with IMR 4350 in the .300 Winchester. Particularly with 125 and 150 grain bullets.

Hey Bigcountry - Congratulations and good luck. Don't wear yourself out.
As for the post - I used to use IMR4350 in my 300WM but now dedpending on what bullets I'm loading, I get better results with IMR4064 and IMR4831 with less felt recoil.

I loaded the 300 Win magfor 20 years and had my best success withIMR 4831. I tried other powders and they were "acceptable". The only other ones that came close in performance were H 4831 and IMR 7828. I'm loading reloader 22 in my Weatherby and it is giving acceptable accuracy, but the velocity is about 100 fps shy of what the 7828 was giving, chronographed. It seems to be more forgiving with the clean or dirty barrel syndrome. It don't care if I've just cleaned the tube or it is dirty. It will still keep them at sub moa. No fouling shot is needed.
