Default KA military 30.06

Maybe not really a reloading question -but i thought yall could advice maybe.

I bought some 400+ rounds korean military 30.06 it seems to shoot well- but i have serious extraction(it gets stuck) before firing- after firingit extracts from the chamber fine. And it is pretty hard closing the bolt( some more then others)- hard chambering of the rounds.

What im wondering is this a possible safety issue( high pressures etc?)

Its Korean made& packed in clips/ mags & bandoleirsfor M1 grand semi auto rifles- marked KA 71&73 & being fired in a savage bolt action.

I had bought& fired some danish made 30.06 that was for M1 grnds also in the past - nice ammo no problems at all& it was a bit milder recoil.

Some things off specs here maybe? Maybe i should use a micometer to see if length , neck etc with this ammo are within proper ranges?

As i said im wondering about possible safety issues or damaging my rifle or other such possible consquences- i have some rifle reloading experence but its minimal- it has been mostly straight wall pistol ammo reloading.

i think id be a little concerned with cartridge overall length. where the ammo was designed for deep throated semi automatic and automatic military rifles. the koreans may have not given it alot of thought and seated the bullets a little long. savage rifles are known to have shallower throats than military rifle. to be totally honest with you I would not shoot anything other than current production ammo from your rifle I mean thats if you actually care for the rifle. most hunting type rifles were not designed to handle military ammo. IMO you are playing with fire shooting surplus military ammo from your rifle. alot of surplus ammo is steel core or steel jacketed and if the gun isnt made to shoot this stuff its horrible on the rifling and bore.

Thanks for your imput on this HDW- you make some good points. I was wondering how the chambers&throats etc compared with these diffent rifles involved .
And yep brass cases but either its steel core or the jacket is bimetal?-the bullets do attract a magnet. Its a stainless 116 savage- tho i bought it newfor only $250 with a scope on it - id hate to ruin or damage it none the less -i realy injoy this rifle& it shoots real nice.

Maybe i will get a 30.06 barrel for one of my NEF rifles(along with a .308)& use it instead- least they can be replaced easly& for $95. installed/fitted.
Thanks again.

shoot bud, you should look into reloading. with the same money you spend on factory ammo you can reload ammo 3 times the quality and taylor the ammo to best suite your gun.

I kinda already am- its just been awhile since i reloaded anything- like a few years( 6 or 7yrs ago ?)

I was shooting a lot of pistol then& reloading for them on a few old Lyman single stage presses(one is a turret press)that i got a good deal on. Slow for pistol ammo production- but they worked real nice for the little bit of 270. i reloaded for to then also.

Got quite a few pistol bullets/cases etc laying around just waiting for my lazy/procratanating butt to get to

FWIW any ammunition that you have difficulty chambering needs to be considered unsafe until the reason is known.,.......often it's OK and will not be a problem.....but you just don't know!!

I suspect the ammo is just fine.....but you really need to find out why it's chambering so hard. You can then make an informed decision at that time as to whether or not to use it.

Thanks Vapodog-& HDW yep i agree too.
Gota find the problem& think i did(maybe).

Finely found my micrometer (ok to measure with i guess) Acording to it & the hornaday reloading manual i have this ammos way off max COL/overall lenth.

3.330 instead of 3.245 as the max.
