Default 44 magnum loads

So, I got this neato model 29 S&W 44 mag, I shot it for the first time last saturday and love it! Now, I need to know a good bullet and powder. I am thinking the 240 grain hornady and 24 grains of h110. Any idears? What works for you? I am looking to push that bullet at somewhere near 1500 fps with 1000+ ft lbs of energy. Lemme know what you all think. thanks, EJ

I got the same gun. But mine is 6" barrel. I get around 1370fps with that load. H1000/xtpload that is. I dropped my load down to 23gr, it appeared to be more accurate.

I also shoot 10gr of Unique with 240gr Lasertrail cast with real, real good accuracy.

Are you getting better performance with the 296? I was also thinking when I started loading with H110 I would be kicking over 1500fps. But as usual with chronos' sorely disappointed.

Bigcountry, what velocity are you getting with h110? Is it even close?

1370fps. Most of the data out there is for 8" barrels. Might buy ya another 60-70fps. Maybe.

That ain't nothin to sneeze at. I shot a boar and it put it down to the ground with authority.

Yep. Actually I get almost 1100fps with the unique load without near the recoil. It ain't bad either and I get 1.2" groups at 30 yards.

Well, I gues 1300 fps is good enough. I just want something near 100 foo pounds of energy at the muzzle. That should do it. EJ
