Default Neck turning

Can some one explain this to me and is it worth doing for a hunting round???

I don't want to get into the compition shooting or anything just get decent groups from my deer riflesRight now I'm getting right around 1" to 1.25" groups from my 300 XCR... I really haven't tryed any different powders just IMR4350 and really havent shot more than 50 rounds threw this gun... I would like to see .75 or maybe .50 groups...

You ought to come to my house and let me show you how before you purchase everything. I live in Westminster.

I have the hole setup for 30 cal's and 7mm cals. I sometimes do it for problem brass, but to be honest with you, it works the crap out of the necks. And looking back, I wish I never got into it.

You have put thru a expander mandel, then have to setup your neck turning tool, then need to fireform to get the benefit.

Yep, going out to garrett county first day with a friend on here.

We can get together anytime your ready. I think after I show you the operation, you might change your mind. In fact, I am one hair away to selling all of my NT gear (sinclair good stuff).

Instead keep my neck thickness gauge and just cull out bad brass.

There's lots of very marginal if not completely worthless reloading activities that people do for their hunting rifles.

IMO turning necks is one of them.

I have tried it....I've also done primer pocker uniforming, flash hole deburring, weighing cases and separating them, weighing powder to w/n .1 grain etc..

I believe this is a good statement for hunting rifles...

If accuracy was a foot long.....finding the right bullet is 10" of it. Finding the right powder is another inch. All the rest of the reloading things together make up the last inch.

I feel I've done quite well just doing three things...right bullet...right powder and a good work up for the good charge.

We do a serious injustice to new reloaders when there is so much press on things that are in the last inch. I read a lot about folks thinking that seating distance from the lands is going to be the "bees knees" for accuracy and they haven't even tried more than one bullet....nor have they addressed the bedding in their rifle.

Reloading for accuracy can be frustrating and also very rewarding but all the things involved in the last inch are a waste of time until the first 11" are traveled.....or in other words.....don't get sophisticated until your gun is shooting "REAL" 1.25" five shot groups and better. Besides when you get there you'll see several three shot groups in the 1/2" range and you too can join the internet group claiming you have a 1/2" gun.....
