Getting ready to try BM65's 44 magload, got my round balls today need to ask some questions.
1 What lube to use.
2 How deep to seat, thinking maybe I could seat on powder for Redhawk
and leave ball part way out so would feed in lever rifle.
3 Is it really necessary to bore out the flash hole, don't want to ruin my
brass.
4 Do you need to size, the ball is really tight on unsized cases.
I am hoping some of yawl have tryed this and will save me a lot of
tinkering.
Thanks in advance

Default RE: Round Ball Load

Looks like I'm in uncharted water on this so I tried it on my own. First I lubed the .433 balls with Lee Liquid Alox and let them dry overnite. I fullsized the cases and flared them just enough to start the ball. Iseated the ball1\8 inch below the case for the redhawk. I tried leaving the ball out of the case enough to round off the bullet so it would work in my lever marlin but it would not feed so I shot it single shot.I used
unique powder and tried 3 loads I started out with 3 grains in my redhawk
and it was weak so i did not check the accuracy.

These 3 shotgroups were shot at 25yds.
Redhawk 6grains unique 1 1/2 Marlin 6 grains unique 7/8
Redhawk 8 grains unique 3 1/2 Marlin 8 grains unique 1 5/16
Looks like 6 grains is the best I'll use them for squirrell and plinking.

Default RE: Round Ball Load

sorry martinfaw i didnt see this post untill just now lol. i havent tryed the roundball loads in a pistol yet but i have had great results with my marlin 1894. as long as you keep the range short they roundballs will be very accurate. i load the balls so they are flush with with the case mouth and rub bullet lube into the spaces the ball dosent fill up. ive tryed just about everything to try and get them to cycle throught the action with no efffect.
