Default 2 things have become clear after sorting 223 brass

1. People with AR15's need to clean there chambers.

I found more brass that had to be thrown out than good, sholder with deep dents caused by FOD in the chamber when they were fired, and on the neck and bodies also.

2. I like Lake City brass over Win, Rem, and Federal.

Seems Win, Fed, and Rem cut there brass too short, and that crimp Winchester puts on there rounds just ruins the brass.

The third thing you should have noticed is the deminisional difference between Lake City 5.56 , and Win, Fed ,and Rem .223 . The Lake City is Mil. spec and has a slightly longer neck, thicker walls and usually a smaller case capicity. And as for shoulder dents they arn't a big issue unless they affect feeding or you are using your ammo in a match. Then I would be crimping them myself with a Lee factory crimp die to improve my accuracy.

I have read a post where a guy fired a .223 ,38 times neck sizing only without touching the OAL of the new Nosler Premium brass he noted that it was the best quality brass he had ever seen bar none.

I'm a big lake city brass fan. I have shot thousands of Lake City brass for reloads, usually load 'em once an discard 'em (used to have an AR15), and if I kept 'em I would never trim 'em, just resize an re-use and they still shot .5 MOA out of my bolt guns.

I bought 1000 rounds of lake city brass a few years ago and I sorted it by year and then attempted to sort it by weight and became so dissapointed with it that it now lives in a few coffee cans in my shop. As for getting .5 " groups I couldn't get 1" from a heavy barrel savage with any consistency, and this was after all the sorting and weighing! I now use Lapua brass in most of my .223 and .308 and have much better results. I haven't yet tried Nosler brass but I do intend to, I'd like to be using a product made in the good OL' US.

I've had good luck with IMI brass out of my Savage heavy barrel...
