Default 7mm08 loads

Picked up a 708 this fall and I am about to start reloading for it. Anyone got any good loads for it. I think I will start with 47gr IMR 4350 and 140 gr Sierra BT.

You mentioned that you just picked up this rifle and you"™re already starting with near max loads. This load is only 0.2 off max. I would suggest to start a little lower and work your way up. How do you know if your rifle can handle hot loads ??

My best so far is 40.5 gr. of h4895, with a 145 gr. Speer hot core. This load is right of hodgdon's website.

Give Ramshot BigGame a try. Very accurate and great velocities in my Savage.

Thats the load I have been using lately and am shocked that its so accurate and consistent. I put it together because I ran out of 4064 and varget. And came home smiling.

My best luck with the 7-08 has been with IMR4064. I tried 4350 and Varget without much success. Of course I had my rifle re-bedded and it did improve accuracy immensly so I may retry these powders when it gets a bit warmer out.

I've been fooling with the7-08 all this past summer and fall. Without boring you with the tedium of what I tried that didn't work so well, I'll just give you what I finally settled on----48.0 gr. 4350, 139 gr. Hornady Spire Points, CCI Mag. 250 primers. Shoots very well in MY rifle, but as we all know, they are usually individuals unto themselves. This is a pretty stout load, so be sure to work up to it slowly, checking for signs of pressure.

I used this load for a Remington Model 7 youth7mm-08 Rem. Hornady 139 gr. SP; IMR 4350 45.5 grs. 2600 f/s; Primer WLR . The 11 year old shot a .75" 3 shot group with this load. To bad he didn't see a buck mule deer. Good luck.

My 12 year old son got his first elk yesterday with a 7MM-08. Used a 150 grain Swift Scirocco with 45 grains of H-380. 2714 fps out of a 25" Douglas barrel. Mild recoil. Hit elk in the neck at 238 yards. No tracking necessary .
