Default 270 WSM

Just ordered the Savage Varmit rifle in 270 WSM. Who is loading a good Mule deer load for this caliber. I have no components or dies as yet. I have a few 270 bullets but not many. I am thinking about the 140 grain Ballistic tip as a long range load or maybe the 140 grain Hornady BTSP. I have yet to look at premium bullets like the Accubond or Barnes Tripple shoks. Has anyone tried the 110 grain Tripple Shok? What powder are you using?

James, nice to see you have another rifle added to your collection...I have reloaded a number of different bullets and powders this summer for my 270WSM and ended up with the 140 gr. Accubond loaded with H4831SC powder. The Accubond did the job although the shots weren"™t at great distances. With trying different bullets I was getting good groups with Barnes 130 gr. TSX using RE 19 & RE 22 powders but was concern that the bullet wouldn"™t open up on deer size game. Some one at the range had suggested to try the 110 gr. TSX on deer, so this is something I might consider for next year but I"™m satisfied with the Accubond for now.

I would be very curious to see what kind of speeds you would be getting with your rifle so I could compare with mine...

James - I have been having good luck with RL 22 in the 270 WSM. If you can see your way clear to try some bonded bullets, the 130 gr. Swift Scirocco is one of the most lethal .270 bullets ever made - particularly at the higher speed of the WSM or Weatherby Mag. Great for mule deer or elk.

Thanks for the info guys. I will get around to trying quite a few bullets. I have also tried to get the 110 grain Triple shoks but havn't found any yet. I checked several places that had the 130 and 150 but no 110. Although a cuss word for some, I think the heavier Ballistic tips should work well. I have never had any trouble with the Ballistic tips blowing up but I don't load them real hot. I will be chronographing it as soon as I get it and get a decent ND day. I have 4831. RE 19 and half a case of MRP thats getting a little age on it. I think it says to use AA3100 Data for it. I have a Scheels Hunter 4.5x14 scope that I will start with. They are a good scope with a in store replacement Warranty. Nikon Makes the Glass for them.

I've had great groups with 140 gr Accubonds and SST's. 58.5 gr of H4831SC, WW brass, Fed 215 primers. Both bullets shoot to the same poi at 100 yds. This is out of my Ruger all weather with 22" barrel.
