For a .224 does anyone have experience or preference between these two bullets. I'm looking for a penetration oriented load out of my 22-250. 1:14" twist but all/most shots will be within 100yds...so "bad" grouping (say, 2-3MOA) will be ok. Because of this I'm thinking 60-70gr are still ok.
Any ideas? thanks.

I would expect fairly bad grouping with the 60 grain bullets, and sideways bullet holes with the 70's - out of a 1:14 twist. You might look at the53 grainBarnes X bullets - they will be stable and penetrate real well. Are you thinking about deer size game?

yes...thank you...and I'm an idiot, in a hurry I forgot that bullets will actually tumble (not just group poorly)

I would change that will to a maybe. The barnes x bullet is actually longer thanmost lead core bullets and sometimes requires a tighter rate of twist than lead core bullets of the same weight.
Checked on Midway. Sierra makes a 55gr Gameking...are these same design as those of the 85gr variety that have their own thread here?

Soil Swift makes a 55grn in their Trophy Bonded Bearclaw that performs GREAT in my 22/250 (but it is a 1:12" Savage). I haven't reloaded for this gun, just got them in Federal Premium Vital Shock. It will shoot through a deer inside of 100yds and should do ok from your gun (assuming you don't try to drive it at max speed).
A customer of mine tried this bullet in the .22-6MM with a 1:14 twist and it was good. But maybe it was just barely stable. I'm betting it will be OK, though, in the regular 22-250. So I will amend my "will" to an optimistic "maybe"

I used to shoot a lot of 55 gr. Sierra Gamekings in my old .22-250. They are not as tough as the 85 Sierra HPBT, but are good varmint bullet nonetheless. What were you intending to engage with this 22-250 load?

Deer and Coyote within 100yds...and I'd certainly rather error on the penetration with coyotes.

I've shot several deer and hogs with a 50 grain Nosler BT. Of course, all were under 100 yards, usually about 75 yards, and all were recovered within sight. I think the furtherest ran about 35 yards and fell over....
