Want chambers can a gunsmith make into a 6.5X55? Just going buy the dimensions of the cartridges the .243 looks like a close one. Does anyone know of others? Whose making guns in 6.5swede besides CZ, Howa and Tikka?

I reload for6Mm and have never had a problem finding brass for it . everything else is the same components as the 243 Win takes as far as bullets and powder goes .
Remington, Winchester and Savage have chambered the 6.5x55 off and on. Pretty much any rifle could be rebarreled with a 6.5x55 barrel. Great cartridge, kills out of proportion to its paper ballistics.

Not sure I understand what the 6mm Remington has to do with 6.5x55, though...
To be far to halcon, I "edited" and changed the thread. I was getting no traffic so changed it from asking about the 6mm remington to the more...ummmm....reverred 6.5X55.

The 6.5X55 can easily be set back and rechamberred to .260 Remington if there is enough "shank" on the barrel. Also, the 6.5-284 is a great caliber that can be rechambered to a 6.5 Swede barrel.
Some military actions do not like the fatter rebated head case, though. Most commercial ones willwork with minimal modifications.

Remington made a 6.5X55 Swede in the 700 Classic model ,I forget the year and Winchester made it in the model 70 featherweight classic .
Kimber MFG Inc at one time was rebarreling and restocking model 96 and 98 Swedish Mausers into everything from 243win to a 338 win mag if your wondering what it can be made into . another round that is popular is the 6.5-06 .
Kind of had me wondering on my first answer myself .LOL

Ruger still lists the 6.5x55 Swede on their website for their model 77. I would be somewhat surprised if Sako didn't also chamber for it. I have also seen Bennett and Adams barrels for the Savage rifles in the chambering. It is supposed to be a relatively easy task to swap the barrels on the savages if you have the proper headspace guage, wrench and barrel vise.

There's one little catch. The 6.5x55 has a slightly larger rim diameter than the .260REM or any other cartridge from the .308/30-06 family, so the boltface will also need to be modified a bit.. You would probably want to do this on a long action also as a short action rem 700 is probably going to be a bit too short for the 6.5x55.
Best bet- buy a rifle that is already chambered in 6.5x55.

The rim is slightly larger on the Swede, but from a functional standpoint this has not turned out to be much of an issue. A regular Remington 30/06 or .270 will work fine when rebarreled toa 6.5X55 caliber; and the Model 96 Swedish Mauser can be converted to any caliberin the .308 or 7X57 family of cartridges (pressures permitting, of course). The only timethis issueraisesa red flag is if you try to reloadthe 6.5X55without the proper shell holder.

Of course if you reload and only use domestic brass that has the 'standard' .473" rim, its not an issue either
