Default RL25 STW loads

Is anyone getting 3300fps with 160gr bullets with the 7mmSTW and RL25?

I am shooting 77gr H1000 barely kicking over 3050fps. But notice alliant posts RL25 loads over 3300fps! I believe 80gr. Thats kinda hard to believe when Hodgdon posts Retumbo loads 80gr not near that. Figured I would ask before I waste my time and powder.

I built a 7 STW for a local rancher a couple years ago - used a Shilen Stainless air-guaged 27.5" barrel. He gotup to about3500 fps before it started showing pressure with the 160 grain Sierra/RL 25. His gun does seem extraordinarily fast though - was getting 3600 with factory Remington 140 grain loads.

Big I shoot a surplus powder in my stw with 160's, its got less flame temp than the extruded powders, called WC872, its a ball powder that uses H870 data and its 5 bucks a pound. you can order it from bartlett reloaders at www.gibrass.com

haven't checked velocities yet, I'll let you know, should work on that this week, was waiting for cooler weather so velocities would be more in line with what they would be during deer season so I can make up an accurate drop chart.

preliminary tests are like this
rem 700, accurised by mark bansner, lilja #4 (I think) contour 1-9 twist 26" barrel
rem resized one fired 8mm rem mag brass, fed 215 primers. WC 872 powder, 160 accubonds
93 gr. 3172 fps
94 gr. 3232 fps
95 gr. 3258 fps, slightly sticky bolt lift, just a hint of ejector pin marks, no case head expansion
96 gr. 3275 fps clear ejector marks, tight bolt lift, sticky extraction, .004 casehead expansion.
I think 94 gr. is max load in my rifle, I'll run a trajectory chart and see what I can come up with.

Ridgerunner:

Thoes charges seem heavy; is WC872 really dense? Can you find out the Listed Bulk Density? Are you using a drop tube? How is your accuracy? Thanks.

just ran chrony tests this week will load up some more to shoot for accuracy in the near future. couldn't tell ya about bulk density, but the 96 gr load was compressed. WC872 uses the same data as H870 or AA8700, its a ball powder, the flame temp is less so the barrel heats up alot slower, I know with h1000 in this rifle after three shots you couldn't stand to touch the barrel for long but with wc872 after 7 shots the barrel was just real warm, it has to be easier on the barrel

WC872 sounds very promising. Please keep me informed on accuracy.
