I been loading for the 06 for some 30 years plus and found that IMR 3031 44.5 @ 45.0 grains shoot excellent .The one gun was the A3-03 springfield and now the Handi in 06.
The Handi can get into a little problem when mav: load are used ,I back down the charge on the Handi to 44.5 and seem not to have and problem ejecting fired cases,on the other a bolt wiil handle 45.0 grains with out any problem.I also use CCI large rifle primer and 165 grain hornady interlock SP bullet

You never said what your loading for. Deer, bear, moose, elk??
If your cash flow is limited I would start out with Hornadys in the 165 - 180 grain range. I've had my best luck with IMR-4064 powder in the '06. And I use CCI large rifle primers.
That being said, you better same some cash up and get yourself a case trimmer and a caliper to check case length. That '06 case is going to stretch from repeated firings and the neck will get too long to chamber easily and trimming will be necessary.
Welcome to the fun world of reloading. Good luck.

I've had excellent results with 4064, 4350 and H380, I've also dabbled with 748 and 760 but keep going back to 4064 and 4350in both 150 and 165 gr bullet weights. I prefer federal primers because they are made with a softer cup metal, but have found winchester primers to be hotter. I had gotten a bad batches of CCI primers in the past and stay away from them now. My FN Mauser in 06 shooting the 165 SST's really likes 47.9 gr of I4064 or 57.0 gr of I4350.

I have always had excellent results with Hornady 180 gr. BTSP, RL-19, and Federal 210 Large Rifle Match Primers. Good luck.

IMR 4350 and IMR 4831 are very good starting points........I will bet that you could achieve a "hunting" load with one of these two powders. By that I mean you could work up a load that would give you sufficient groupings to hunt with, (somewhere near 1.25-1.5") if you want to fine tune it you may have to play around with alot of factors to get you under an inch.

H4350 & Fed 210 primers. This powder works well for bullets ranging from 150-180 grs. My best accuracy is usually found at the upper end of the load range. My rifle is a Rem 700 ADL.

With 165 grain Hornady Interbonds I like 57grs of H4350, Fed210M primers and Lapua Brass. IMR4350 has worked quite well too.

FOr the 165 grain bullet, use 57 grains of IMR4350, I have clocked this load at 2900 fps +- 50 fps. Real accureate too. But, your rifle will act differently than mine. EJ
