Default 300 WBY Loads......

Looking for a good load thinking about 165 or 180gr TSX, and H1000 powder.
I'll be hunting Whitetail, Elk and Bear...... which is a better grain.

Any receipts are greatly appreciated too!!!!

THX....

Default RE: 300 WBY Loads......

The only one (Barnes TSX) I've tried so far in my .300 Wby is the 165 gs. TSX and I've only worked up a load using RL22. Here it is in case you're interested:

165 gr. Barnes TSX
84 grs. RL22
Norma brass
Fed 215 primer

As always start lower and work up to this load.

Personally, I think the 165 gr. bullet is capable of doing everything you need. After all, it's a Barnes, which means it's going to penetrate as well or better than heavier conventional bullets.

I may be working up a load using H1000, H4831 or IMR7828 in the future. I think once I'm finished with the supply of RL22 I've got now, I'm going to quit using it because of lot to lot consistency issues I've noticed.

Good luck.

I would go with a Barnes 180 gr. TSX BT using RL-22 MIN: 78 grs. 2929 f/s; MAX: 83 grs. 3117 f/s.Good luck.

A friend loads the 165 Sierra HPBT 'Gameking' in his 300Wby and uses it for both deer and elk. I know he gets terrific accuracy. I'm shooting the 300RUM for elk which is in the same ballpark and have found the 180 TSX to be a favorite.

In most cases I would go with the 180 but the weight retention, BC,and construction of the Barnes bullets would move me toward the 165 grain bullet. It will outpentrate most competative 180s with equal KE due to the high weight retention and will carry energy downrange better than 95%of the 180 grain bullets due to the .505 BC. I just think the 165 will pass thru game with no problem and will fly a little flatter.
