Default What powder for 7mm Rem mag - thoughts?

Just wondering what powder you'd suggest for 150-160 gr bullets for my 7mm rem mag? Can not locate any RL22 locally, so thinking about 7828. Other choices I have found locally are H4831 and H4350. I have been sort out of reloading for a while but am back in and in need of some thoughts.

What about primer winchester mag or LR?

I am thinking about trying 150 gr Nosler Part to start, BTW. It will be used for elk and deer hunting this fall.

Lots of powders should work okay in the 7mm Remington Magnum. You could try any of these:
Accurate 4350
Accurate 3100
Accurate Mag Pro
Hodgdon H-4350
Hodgdon H-4831
Hodgdon H-1000
Hogdon Retumbo
IMR-4350
IMR-4831
IMR-7828
Ramshot Magnum
Reloder 19
Reloder 22
Reloder 25
Vihtavuori N-160
Vihtavuori N-165
Vihtavuori N-170
and probably more than a few others

I load only Nosler Partition 160 gr in my 7Mag. I'll need to double check but I'm pretty sure I'm pushing them with IMR 4350. Years back, Winchester used to make a Std/Mag LR primer, but haven't seen them on the shelves in years. They were great primers for the 7Mag, I still have several flats that I keep strickly for the big 7. Don't know what I'll switch to when they're gone.

I find H4831sc to be very accurate in 7mm with 150-160 gr. bullets.

I reloaded some 150gr Nosler Partitions for my dads friend. I used 63gr IMR 4831 with CCI 250 primers. This load is about 3100 fps and it shoots .5" group at 100 yards.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to try some 4831 (IMR) with 150 gr NP's to start with and then go from there. I picked a box of Federal Match Gold Mag primers to start things off.

Gundigest, I was thinking about starting around the samwe with the IMR 4831. Thanks for the info and experiences.

No problem, good luck. I hope it is as accurate in your rifle as it was in my dads friends.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I like RL22, IMR7828, 4831 & 4350 and H4831 & 1000. I also like the Fed215 match primer. I've also used the Fed210 match primer with good results.

I got good groups with the RL 22 under and inch, with a 140 gr bullet, but with 66.5 gr it fell on its face in velocity, I could barely break 3000 fps. My fastest round was 3006 and my slowest was 2940. I thought RL 22 was supposed to be a pretty hot powder.
