I'd like to load a bullet with good quick expansion because the hunt is close quarters with woods, bluffs, creeks. I could lose a deer in this area although I haven't yet with my rifles. I'd just like to use a handgun but wanted advice on cast or jacketed bullets and wanted a good pass through blood trail for recovery but still with tremendous shock for possible immediate knockdowns. I like to use the broadside shot through both shoulders for a crippling and mortal shot so the animal doesn't run off very far if not already immediately on the ground.

I would go with a Ballistic Advantage BOAR-SLAMMER Premium Hunting Bullet (ph: 325-529-3363) .44 Mag.- LFN GC 250 gr., WLN GC 280 gr. ~ 300 gr. One could also use Cast Preformance .44 cal. 255 gr. WFNPB ~ 275 gr., or 300 gr. WFNGC. Good luck.

The man who casts Boar-Slammer bullets is Tom Blackwell (Ballistic Advantage) 531A Cove Rd. Abilene, TX 79602 Ph: (325) 529-3363. He has no web sight to my knowledge. Give him a call he is a really nice fellow. Good luck.

I just started to reload and sight in a (.44 Mag)320 gr hardcast LFNGC from Cast Performance (Cabelas) with 21to 21.5 gr of H-110, Fed Case and Fed Large Mag Pistol Primer # 155. Aim for the shoulders and hit as many bones as you can. I shoot this load out of a Ruger SRH 7 1/2" barrel.
