he is absolutley right, however when working up a new load I check the other books too, just to see if the charges Im starting with correspond with other bullets.

I compare several manuals before starting load development. One thing that you can be sure of is that the gun that the company publishing the manual used was not your gun so the loads used in the manual may or may not be safe in your gun.The maximum load listed in the manual may also be quite mild in your gun and you may be able to increase the charge and still be within the design pressure for the cartridge. The point is that due to variances in chamber and barrel dimensions from gun to gun no loading manual can predict exact velocities or pressures produced by your gun,so use the manuals only as a guide and do not take the data as being exact for your gun..

He's right and wrong. There are a few bullets that are simular, and a few you have to work differently.

Barnes, Failsafes, and TBBC, and even Scirrocos or any other solid shanked bullet will need different care.

Your ballistic tips, partitions, accubond, gameking, prohunt's, interlocks, all behave the simular I see.

Every gun is different. All your reading in a manual is that guy saw pressure signs at that load in that gun.

My resources are the powder manufactures, and nosler, speer, sierra.

When looking at a new load, I right down all the data from all the sources. I look at the differences and make up my own decision on picking a powder.

For instance, my 7mm-08 I am working a load up for.

I have looked at all the resources and am trying out 140gr gameking. I see IMR4350, Varget, and 4064 being very potential powders for velocity, and performance and of course availability.

I notice under three of my sources, hodgdon, speer, nosler, around 42.5gr Varget is max. But do notice in 4th edition Sierra 44.7gr is max but in 5th edition, they lowered it to 43gr. So I make up my mind that I will concentrate my loads from 40gr working up slowly to 43gr.

Longbeard:

I extrapolate data from different manuals; I just make sure I start with MIN. load. I have even gone as far as taking many min. loads average them out and start there. Good luck.

Mossy, you little smart, well guy. What do you think I do for a living? I extrapolate data to determine end of life of a product over thermal cycles. You make makeup for women

Put that in your pipe.

Yep he's right. When I started reloading I only bought the manual with different brands called "The Complete Reloading Manual for the (whatever caliber). A while back I bought the Nosler reloading manual and compared it with the first manual, it was different as the max load in the first manual was actually the minimum in the nosler manual, it must have gotten updated.
