Nice Chuck, I have never really worked on finger picking style. All my stuff electric blues primarly using the minor penatonic scales. Now that I'm retired from the music business, I play more than I used to playing 26 shows a month. My style is more Stevie Ray Vaughn Crossed with Hendrix and Clapton.

I'm sure you know more than the minor scale..LOl If a man was playing in a magor key I know you couold follow along..

I mostly play by myself...so I'm very limited. I know the natural minor , blues and magor scales but playing by myself..I rarely use them..I do practice tehm alot though in case I'm in a situation to use them..It's best to memorize them on the entire neck..which I'm sure your aware of that.

I buy books from Mel Bay and practice out of them....my newest books have been on Rag. Rag was invented in the early 1900s in in LA ...pretty darn difficult to play ..and flat picking bluegrass gospel, hornpipes ,ballads and fiddle tunes. When playing rag..the scales mostly include various minor scales and blues mixed...

I found it virtually impossible to find any advanced bluegrass..anywhere.The Mel Bay company rates all of the books..very few get the advanced rating..and no bluegrass books have it. I've seen advanced bluegrass played on youtube but no one wants to sell their secrets. Steve Kaufman has very good material but I'd like to take it to a new level..

Have a wonderful day and appreciate the reply.

Brother Chuck

Chuck, I know all the scales, it's just that blues even though played in a major cord a minor penatonic scale works good mixing in some majors, but not too much normally a hammer on or pull off to go to the next note.

I almost forgot that name Mel Bay, I used his books when I first start in 1960 that's how I learned my cords.

Chuck; You might try bluegrasscollege.org. Wyatt Rice also has a couple of instructional CD's available. Wyatt and Tony used to live just up the road from you Dunnellon. Tony was just 13 or so but could he ever pick a Martin! That was in the mid 60's.
