HOw important is hunting and fishing to you in 2011?
Dear Friends,
It's interesting to me...that here lately I've been striving to walk in the Spirit and by God's grace I have been...and I've noticed something..
my hunting and fishing has gone from a level 10 to a level ...3 The Lord has been on my mind so much I have kind of lost interest..not sure if I'm going turkey hunting at all this year. I have a key to private property for hog hunting..and I'm not really interested..I have a feeder hanging and might sit one evening a week. I love deer hunting but that is a ways off..
My mind is changing..Is this normal?..Is anyone else going through this? I'm not depressed.I'm very content..I've just lost alot of the desire..
my mind now thinks of taking joy in little things..I'm learning the secreet of being content. I'm 56 ..is this part of getting older?
Hey I sat in my hog stand last evening..I still love huning..didn't see any hogs but had a wonderful time listening to nature ..The Holy SPirit enhances all good things.
I enjoy it, but it's not a priority in my life, one reason is that I've got back into music and it's a whole lot more satisfying to me right now than hunting or at least I can do that everyday. I don't have my own place to hunt and hunting cost money.
We've had our household income cut by 50%, my wife is not able to work anymore due to health reasons, thank God I still make a good living, but I'm not going to WASTE as much money hunting as I did in the past.
I started getting the cobwebs off my guitar playing and started hitting the guitar again. I'm so blessed, a friend of mine that wanted to learn how to play blues built me a Super Reverb amp and put in some Van Zant pickups on my Fender Stratocaster. I give him lessons once a month, what a trade off.. I know it's all God, I've been so bless to have God give me the desires of my heart. Now I have to start writting some good Christian tunes.
But to answer your question, I don't think it's your age brother, it's that you are putting God first, and He knows that!
Appreciate the feedback Rev..It's beginning to feel like a ghost town on here.
There's a verse that says we should play skillfully unto the Lord. There is very little advanced bluegrass available ..if any so I've been working out of a new guitar book that is much more advanced than I'm used to...more chet Adkins style..I ge tmy books from Mel Bay..the instructor of this book is Tommy Flint..It's instrumental gospel which you can tell he picked up ..as most have from chet Atkins.LOL
Our pay was cut in half about 3 or 4 years ago..We have always lived fugile so that didn't hurt us..it only slowed our saving down..but we still eat good...have pretty flowers and healthy trees..and enough gas money to hunt and fish...and have ribs once every 2 weeks.{ -;
My hunting..I have a free hog place but we are still trying to get them established as it's only a small piece of land..
My deer spot is good but 170 miles round trip..so when I go..I sit all day..
Turkey..although I have a permit..I may skip this year..
Honestly Rev..I'm at a super place in the Lord. We have a father and son relationship..I'm learning to give all my cares to him no matter how big or small...
I appreciate the feedback Rev..looks like there are very few of us left..WHo knows how long this forum will be up,.
We're all on this site because we hunt. That's how we found this place . . . the religion forum just happened to be a part of it -- the part that is my start up page whenever I get online. So it might be surprising when someone says that their interest in hunting is waning. But this is the religion forum and many of us will probably understand how God reclaiming the greater and rightful role as priority can relegate hunting to a lesser role.
This past summer didn't find me outside every evening practicing with my bow. In fact, I rarely even thought about hunting. Didn't think about it much as the season drew closer . . . and it kinda worried me. I thought I'd lost the desire to hunt and I didn't want that to happen since it's been a big part of my life for a long time and I use it to provide all of our red meat. However, once the season got almost upon me, I got out my bow and felt some of the desire returning. I regained the desire, but a bit less than before (I DID attribute that to age and found myself taking it a bit easier than I sometimes had). I had a good season and took 5 deer including one of my best bucks.
Unfortunately, my reasoning (at least at the time) was not the same as yours, but I HAVE felt that I might have been placing undue importance and priority on my hunting in the past. I've been watching DVD's lately of Louie Giglio and have been made far more aware of the awesomeness of the God we serve and I'm inclined to give Him the honored #1 spot.
It remains to be seen how this fall's bowseason will pan out, but right now, I'm just under 2 weeks away from my annual spring turkey hunting trip out in the mountains of western MD!

Nice reply Dave..good hearing from ya..actually it's not just hunting for me..it's eatting at restaurants as well..I beleive this turkey season will slide by..If I lived by some private land I'm sure it would be a different story...
Chuck, I don't live near good turkey hunting land. The place I hunt is a 4 1/2 hour drive from where I live. Fortunately, I have become very good friends with the farmer who owns it and I actually stay at his house each time I go there - so I only have to make the long trip once each way. It's been great. I hunt every morning and help him during the afternoons. I always buy a bunch of food to take and share with him and I help with cooking, cleaning up, etc. We end up talking too late every night which makes it hard to get up early the next day -- at least for me. He gets up at 430 every day year round to feed to cattle before driving a school bus, but I usually sleep a bit later than that!
I got my answer from the Word/Holy Spirit..Hunting , fishing , eating etc..has taken a back seat for I am no longer a slave to sin..but a slave to Christ...and when one is a slave to Christ..they "Are free indeed."
