Default What does verse mean to ya??

I've been studying this one for about 4 weeks..it's very heavy...

john 5:44How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? ''

Let's look at it closely..Jesus is saying How can you possibly beleive..or it's impossible to beleive when...you have this in your life..well ..this is a serious verse as we don't want anything to hinder our faith...for only beleivers are going up..only beleivers can please the Lord and only beleivers overcome the sin that lurketh at the door..so lets look at this monster that would make Jesus say "How can you beleive?"

"which receive honour one of another" another version I beleive says which recieve praise one of another..

oh no..we recieve quite abit of praise right here on HNI..fact is it not why we show off our fish and game or new toys..why else would be post a thread..I began to feel sick..is this what Jesus is saying?? well..I've been on this passage for 4 weeks as the Lord continues to unfold it's meaning to me and how I must deal with it..It does seem like there is something in all of us that enjoys a pat on the back for a job well done ..or for the approval of others..BUT at the expence of faith??yikes , that doesn't sound good..

I began to do some house cleaning..in fact..before I post a thread I ask myself..why are you posting this thread??is it to seek your own honor or praise..or is it to magnify God..and the things I do for others..and things I do period..I ask..is this to give glory to God or glory to me..let's finish the verse..
and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? ''

what rings out is the word ONLY..for you can't serve 2 masters..God and self..if we put God first..our joy will be kindled..if we seek honor from man..there is a bit of surface joy but an emptiness within..for our real purpose here is to bring glory to God..when that happens..everything else falls into place..

Very interesting as IMO, most christians today have overlooked a great truth. We are in the world, BUT NOT of the world. There is a new birth involved in the Christian experience. Our citizenship is in heaven! We are under Heavenly laws, rule, and regulations. The new birth brings all who are saved into one family. We are sons, not stepchildren. We abide in the same vine! Partake of the root an fatness of the same olive root! There is no Jew in this family and no Gentile! We ALL have the same heavenly father! One God and Father of ALL, who is above all, through all, and in you all. There is one faith, one Gospel, one kingdom, ect. Not a Jewish faith and also a Gentile faith. Not a Gospel of salvation to the Jew and another gospel to the Gentile. Now are ye the sons of God!
That said, one MUST walk in the Spirit OR HE WILL fulfill the lust of the flesh. If any have not the Spirit, he is none of his. One born of The Spirit will bring forth the fruit of The Spirit. One of the flesh cannot help himself, he will bring forth the works of the flesh. As you have said, one cannot serve two masters.
Therefore it becomes a matter of conversion and a new creation in Christ Jesus.

The natural olive tree failed to produce the desired fruit, (everything was based on works) so God grafted in a new branch (Spirit filled believers) in order to produce the correct fruit. By a new and living way. Not through the dead letter of the law, but by the life Of Christ in you, the Hope of glory.
The citizens of the heavenly kingdom care not for the things that the world seeks after. They are not seeking earthy rewards, praise, treasures, ect, Their reward in in heaven. To please God is the only thing that has real value unto the "new creation".

john 5:44How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? ''

This is simply another way of saying "Ye must be born again".

Snooky...

Yes sir..after 4 weeks that is my conclusion as well...the flesh loves attention, pats on the backs...and in time he will be so much buds with the world..he will be embarrassed to talk about his savior..he'd rather fit in with the world..your quote is the only way out..apart from Him we can do nothing..it's a flesh issue..it's in politics , the church and in all of our fleshly nature..only the Spirit can break the yoke.

One reason why Christians fall so easy..they are unhappy..I said this before..Christians need to be happy as "The joy of the Lord is your strenghth."

How to be happy..

Be content and be ye thnkful...The Word says instead of being conveteous.."Be ye thankful..A thankful Christian is a happy Christian..A Christian who always sees the worst in people or situations is prone to be bummed out..and bummed out people is easy prey for the enemy of our soul.

Rejoice in the Lord always...and again I say rejoice..

In everything give thanks , for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

But be filled with the Spirit ..speaking to yourselves in Psalms , hymns and spiritaul songs singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord..

Yes ..the best antedote I've seen in this 4 week study is...being filled with the Spirit / in the joy of the Lord..God loves you and is worthy of your praises. Lift Him up.

Godliness with contentment is great gain.
Be content with such things as ye have.

Contentment and security go hand in hand. Security is a produce of faith. Abraham staggered not at the promise of God. Why? He had faith, and faith said God will not lie and not one jot or tittle shall fail. My God will hasten his word to perform it. God has spoken and he will bring it to pass. Faith is the key IMO. Faith looks beyond the current conditions and beholds the end result and ALL things work together for good to them that love the Lord and are the called according to his purpose.
