Hey all,

I rented just a small John boat from the MWR here on base, it only has a 15 hp engine that I used to get out closer to Barataria Bay out by the Gulf and I caught this 30 inch Red Fish on some 12 pound test line. What a FIGHT! The best catch I ever had!

Sure did, gonna fry him up tonite along with his slightly smaller cousins! I think I musht have caught at least 50 fish between the last two days that I went out. I never seen anything like this place!

In FLorida we can only keep one red fish
I'm surprized you can keep that many..
If they are illegal..I'd get this thread deleted ..there was a man fined last month from a thread like this ..Game Warden used the thread as evidence..

Ha ha. No, I can keep 1 over 27 inches and a total of 5 over 16 inches. I kept the 30 inch and the 23 inch but I caught and released the rest of the Reds that I caught. The total number 50 included the sheephead, croaker, stingray, trout, and catfish that I released all of them. I only kept and ate the two Reds. No worries.

I should add that 50 was probably a gross exageration of the number of fish that we caught between the three or four of us that were fishing all together and that of the fish that we caught maybe 10 of them were Reds but as I said before, I only kept the two.

Some of the other species that we caught but released. I seen a Louisiana fishing show this morning they were catching Reds left and right with a Chartruese Saltwater Assassin lure. I think I'm going to try that instead of shrimp next time. Any other fish than a Red fish is annoying now, LOL!
