Default the sinners Prayer

For some time now I have debated with myself about the sinners prayer, on one end I believe it has and will do tremendous things, on the other I feel as if it is a tool of the evil one. First on the benefits I have seen people convicted through it, and have seen people saved through it. No denying the power in speaking to your creator, but on the other end I have talked to some that think they are saved solely by saying the prayer. So what do you guys think, I am not saying it has to be white or black just looking for some feed back.

It's not important what WE think about it, it's what God told us in his Word. Simply mouthing the words (by itself) won't save anyone. God told us that with the mouth you make the confession, but you must believe with your heart. If you don't chose to have a personal, saving relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ, then the consequences when you leave this earth are eternal. It is the most important decision you will ever make because of the eternal consequences . . . but you must really place your faith in Christ.
Romans 10:9-10

9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Exactly so do you feel as if the total concept of the sinners prayer is a good idea or a bad one. I have in the past used it, but for the past few years I have steadily taken it out of what I tell non believers. But some of my dearest friends still use it. Not trying to start a battle here but I really am leaning towards it being not used correctly. In its beginning I think it was used almost as a first step, and now it seams like a lot use it and say ok my work is done I got them to say it and now they can do what they want. Almost as if it has become corrupt. Does anyone else feel this way or am I just off my rocker.

Personally, I think that it's ridiculous to believe that you are saved soley by the sinners prayer, JMHO, and I also don't think that it's ever a bad idea to ask the LORD for HIS forgiveness from your sins. Do it up I say!

The other Questions is , can anyone without the holy spirit Call on the name of The Father ?

Jesus would have said Abba and the Bible says no one can call him Abba unless he Has the Holy Spirit.
The Bible says" anyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved"
So by saying the lor's prayer are you not Calling on the Father and asking for his kingdom to come ?

No, I googled it and although it varies and apparently means different things to various people it is similar to "act of contrition"

Hmm....Maybe, but I don't like the part about contrition when the prayer says they intend to make up for or to amend for their sins. But like you said, it is similar to it.

Where in the Bible is the "sinner's prayer" listed, or anything about it?

There's a lot more to obeying God than reciting a prayer that's not even in the Bible. IMO it's given a lot of people a false sense of security.
