Default Is there a relationship between the 10 Commandant and being a Christian

So, to claim yourself as a Christian do you have to follow the 10 Commandants? I mean how many are enough to live your life by and still claim Christian status, 7, 8, maybe 9?
Does your disobedience not make you a Christian? Is asking forgiveness enough to keep you a Christian? How many times can you ask forgiveness, is it like crying wolf, soon you won't be believed that you truly seek forgiveness from all your disobedience?
And how many actually practice The Golden Rule "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"?
It was of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. (Matthew 7:12) (Luke 6:31).

The 10 Commandments weren't given to Christians, per se'--they were given to the Israelites (Jews). Nine of the ten are repeated in the New Testament instructions to Christians, in one form or another. To be a Christian (follower of Christ), one has to obey the instructions given to become a Christian.

If disobedience removes Christianity, then nobody is a Christian, because everyone fails. If we could achieve perfection, then Christ would have died for nothing. Sincerely and properly asking for forgiveness results in forgiveness.

I try to practice the "Golden Rule", but I'd be lying if I said I did it perfectly, or even close. I try to hit the kill on every target every time I shoot in a 3-D tournament too--but I've yet to shoot a perfect score. If I ever do I'm sure I won't be able to do it every time. That doesn't keep me from trying though.

Rickmur; One is either a Christian, or he is a lost sinner. Forget about how many good works one must do to be saved or lost. Salvation isn't based on the obedience to rules and regulation written in stone, neither written on paper with a pen. Salvation is based upon the shed blood of the Lamb of God. Good works are not for salvation, but rather the result of salvation. It's all grace, by faith, but most so called christians have no clue what that means. It isn't a license to continue in sinful living, but a power to be an overcomer according to the measure of the gift of grace given.
Yes the 10 commands given are for christians today, but not as ordinances written in stone, but as a new nature received in the new birth experience, which is written in the fleshly tables of the heart. Yes Jesus is our sabbath, so all 10 are pertient to a christian walk. We are complete in him.
Forget what men teach and let The Spirit of Truth begin to leadt you into the ways that are hid from the wise and prudent, but are revealed unto the babes and sucklings in the Kingdom of God.
For the Spirit searches all things, yea even the deep things of God.

Exodus chapter 20 versus 8-11 and chapter 35 versus 1 and 2 gives some detail regarding the Sabbath.

Chapter 20: " Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

Chapter 35 " And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them.
Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death."

Saturday is the 7th day of the week (the Sabbath). Sunday is the first day of the week. We gather on Sunday based on a New Testament command.

I only know of one group that gathers on Saturday--7th Day Adventists. I think they restrict their physical actions, but even they don't keep the Sabbath as commanded under the Law--I don't know of any that do--especially putting someone to death for not observing it as commanded.

So, taken in context for what the Sabbath is according to the Bible, we are only commanded to observe 9 of the 10 as Christians--at least as I read it.

Since I believe the Bible to be the true and inspired Word of God, I accept it as the standard. If what someone tells me conflicts with the written Word, I will take the Word every time. 'Course that's just the way I see it--I can only speak for myself, and nobody else can speak for me.

Rick,

..We are diffently judged by our obedience / disobedience...

However; God had no intentions on Christians fullfilling obedience alone. We have a helper..one that works inside of us..The Comforter.{ The Holy Spirit} .He helps within our thought process for as a man thinketh..so is he. And our thoughts are who we truly are..When the heart is right our thoughts our rights..and when our thoughts are right..then are we truly blessed . those 10 commandments you speak of..Paul said they are ALL fulfilled within 2 commandments..To love God with all your heart mind and soul and to love your neighbor as yourself. This Greek Word for love { Agape} is found in no other old writings except the New testament..This love truly is of God and is the Christian's power..for this love worketh faith. This love comes from a continual relationship with The Father..The lover of God is under no rules Rick..for he is led of The Spirit. Any man or Christian is under continual condemnation if he follows after his flesh..let's look ..
Romans 8

1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rick..it's not about keeping rules..no man could ever do that..It's about loving God more than this present world..When that happens you actually get sick of sin..and that my friend is a process called sanctification..The more you love God..the more you will hate sin..you will yearn to please him in all you do..and my friend when that happens you will have peace and joy everyday..it just gets better and better..It's about a relationship my friend.
God bless you ,
Brother Chuck7

II Timothy 3:15-17 " And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

Emphasis mine.

Obviously my opinion is different, based on what the Bible says. There are rules to be obeyed. Some cannot be kept perfectly by man, some can be obeyed by pretty much anyone (i.e., confessing Christ before men).

If we didn't need the rules, and/or if everyone was simply guided by the Spirit, then God wouldn't have gone to the trouble of providing them and we'd all believe the exact same thing in perfect harmony. Since we are told God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34), I don't believe He will send the Spirit to guide one and ignore another.

Since that's not the case, and one person feels this and another feels that, we have the "rules" to refer back to. They are infallible, man's emotions are not. IMO.

Since we are told God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34),Chad..what is that verse about that you just quoted.."God is not no respector of persons" My friend if you look back at where that is found you will find he's talking about giving the Holy SPirit to the gentiles..We are gentiles..The scriptures say in Romans 8 "That if any man have not the Spirit he doesn't beloeng to God....Jesus left to be with the father that He might sned us the Comforter John 16.."And he { The Holy Spirit }will LEAD YOU into righteousness." Earlier I posted about 20 scriptures to prove that God does talk to us..He is not a respector of person but one must open their ears to listen..If we are too busy we will not hear Him..

This is conditional....

2 Cor. 6:17Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
18And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

This has been refuted many times before and has gone nowhere..I'll let the other brothers chime in..Again..I can and have supported every sentence with scriptures...

John 16:13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The way I understand it, you either need the rules or you don't. If we didn't need them, we wouldn't have them. The Spirit isn't going to tell one person this, another that, and not tell the next anything at all.

It's easy to tell someone that their faith isn't strong enough, that they aren't listening "hard" enough, whatever. Like I said before, I put my faith in what the Bible tells me. That's what I'll be judged on.

I believe the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, but doesn't tell everyone every move to make on a day-by-day basis. God didn't create puppets, but free-willed individuals. We have the guidelines, and the choice to follow them or not.

That's how I see it anyway. I'm not going to try to tell you how you see it.

All the Law and the Propheth hang upon only two, (thats right on 2) commands. What does ALL mean? Just 9 commandments? Were there not 10 given?
Didn't James say that if a man keep the WHOLE law and offend in one point, he is guilty of breaking all of the law? Guilty in every part?
If one believes the bible to be true, and believes that one must keep the commandments, rules, ect. in order to receive salvation, will he choose not to keep some? Will any be to hard to keep if one decides that he MUST be saved?
Wouldn't that result in one being lost and guilty of every command and utterance of the Prophets?
Do we believe what we say, or do we just blow smoke? If some rules cannot be kept perfectly by man, Who then can be saved? Where, and how, then does Grace, and Faith figure into the equation?
