Snooky,
I'm actually afraid to post . I hate to see something as precious as God's Word and plan of salvation get so confusing. We Christians are supposed to be known by our unity and love...and yet the religious forum is the most controversial forum on HNI it even surpasses the Politic Forum.

We had a member ask a simple question and I'm afraid he didn't even get a straight answer..He'll need to read The Book himself.{ -;

Of course this is very understandable..

We have replying regularly on the forum

a Messianic Jew
An Apostolic
A home churcher
A Church of Christ
two Baptist
a Catholic
an Assembly of God
a Jehovah's Witness...
a fiery Ill Zealot
. there ...now we know and these are all sure of thier beliefs..

Chuck, I think you and I are fairly close on our views here. It is when the scriptures are ignored and man adds his preconcieved ideas, based upon a denominational intrepretation at the expense of the full truth that souls are placed in jeopardy.
If one sees a murder in progress, and turns away and doesn't call police, 911, try to intervene in some way to save the victim, he becomes guilty also.
The bible declare sin as when one knoweth to do good and doeth it not. It doesn't say as I recall that one is only a candidate for salvation after he has came to the full knowledge of all the commandments, or rules, and fulfills every one of them. IMO this is gross false doctrine. IMO there is The Gift of Grace, and Faith in what that Gift teaches that will determine the fate of a man. God will have mercy on who he will have mercy. Keeping a completed set of rules before salvation can take place isn"t what the scripture says IMO. Three men received three differing talents. They were required only of the talents that they were individually given. None was require, or responsible for the talents given to another.
There are things that I must do to be saved. These are the talents given unto Snooky. God isn't going to require Snooky's responsibilities at Chucks hand. Chuck must answer for that which God has given unto Chuck. Snooky must answer for Snooky's knowledge of Gods will for him, and him alone.
I asked a while back, who on this board, has come to know and understand all the will of God? Who understands perfectly all the written scriptures left unto us? If salvation is soley based upon keeping the rules, there must not be any saved on here, or they are ashamed of their walk with God. No one has admitted to having all the truth. If no one has the complete truth, than all are guily of failing some point in the law. That makes all guilty of all the law.
IMO that is not the teaching of the scripture. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance. Repentance is a condition of the heart, not the keeping of a set of rules. Grace produces works resulting from salvation. Works, or keeping rules, doesn't produce Grace, neither does works produce salvation. Why flustrate the Grace of God. Why stand in the gate and hinder those who would enter in there at?

Chuck, for the record I'm an individual and make up my own mind based on what the Bible says. Each Church of Christ is an individual congregation, with no (earthly) leadership other than the elders of that particular congregation--no national leaders, clubs, guidebooks, etc. Like any other individual, you can't judge one by looking at another. Seems that keeps happening to me--I've been told what I'm supposed to believe countless times on this board, rather than asked--and even ignored when trying to set the record straight. Not that you have done that, but it has happened a lot, and recently.

Snooky, I did not say there were only 9 commandments. I said that 9 of them were repeated to Christians. Christians were not commanded to keep the Sabbath, or to stone those who do not.

Do you do nothing at all on Saturdays? Do you participate in stoning those who would work on Saturday? What example did Christ give about the Sabbath? (Matthew 12) What did Christ say about keeping God's commands? (Matthew 7:21)

Man is not perfect. A Christian is not perfect, just forgiven. Some men cannot look upon a beautiful woman without having improper thoughts. Some cannot contain their temper. Others have a problem with the facts, especially when blinded by bias. Being a Christian doesn't make those imperfections disapear, but it allows an avenue for them to be forgiven.

I'll leave it at that, because I have a feeling about what's going to happen next.

WAIT Chuck! You forgot to mention a lunitic from IL! LOL!

Hear is what has been revealed to me from time in the Word. We are under the 10 commandment. This is a very tough area to understand and it is easily distorted. Lets see what Jesus had to say about the law.

Mat 5:17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or shall in one tittle no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
We see in 17 that Jesus said he did not come to destroy the law but to fulfil it. What does he mean by that? He means he came to die so that you could take his grace and be empowered to keep the law through him. Notice that he says the law and prophets! The old testiment is good for us also! Is he not fulfilling what it says?
In 18 he says that until the end of heaven and earth not one stoke will disapear from the law. Are we still here?
In vs 19 we see Jesus telling us what happens if we obey and properly teach people to obey ALL the commandments! And what it says about those who say and teach we are not under them!

Then we have to look at this scripture!
Hbr 9:1Then verily the first [covenant] had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
Hbr 9:9 Which [was] a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
Hbr 9:10 [Which stood] only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed [on them] until the time of reformation.
Here Paul tells us what was wrong with the first covenant and what part was done away with. Vs 1 tells us that the first was made up of ordinances of divine service and a worldly sanctuary. So the priest would go through all the sacrifices and washings and gifts. But they did not make the inside of the people clean. It did not help the conscience! That is why Jesus said this!
Mat 23:25"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
Mat 23:26Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
Mat 23:27"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean.
We see in Heb 9:10 that Paul said these worldly ordinances were imposed on them until the time of reformation. What is this? It is when Jesus died and set things straight! He made a way for you to be empowered by grace to keep the commandments through him. He died for forgiveness of sins but that is only part of it. He died to release you from the bondage and slavery of sin also.

Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
We have to look at the word remission in the greek!
aphesis
1) release from bondage or imprisonment
2) forgiveness or pardon, of sins (letting them go as if they had never been committed), remission of the penalty

What do we see here! The blood of the new testament was shed so you can be released from and forgiven of your sins.

Here is where it gets distorted!
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

People read this and they say that no man is justified by the law. That is not what this says! They are leaving out a big word! WORKS! What are the works of the law? I went over them just a bit ago. Washings, Sacrifice, Gifts! The worldly ordinances will not justify a man! They will only clean the outside! We see that here also.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

This confuses people big time! We are not saved by works but are created unto good works! Say what! We are saved by grace! The power Jesus give us to overcome. Not by washings, gifts and sacrifices. Then Jesus would have died for nothing. When we are empowered by Jesus we are a new creation with good works waiting for us to do. These good works are different than the works of the law!

Hbr 8:10 For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Rom 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law [are] just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:Rom 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another

What does all this mean!!!!!!!!It means when you go out and you steal something from your neighbor you think, " this isnt right!" Its your conscience speaking to you! Its the law of God written in your heart! You know that its not right to murder you know its not right to cheat on your wife, you know its not right to break the commandments and you feel that inside! If you feel this inside and you are not obeying what you feel inside and directly oppose what you feel inside this can happen!

1Ti 4:1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

If we dont listen and obey our conscience it will be seared and we will say silly things like." I am stuck in sin until I die" and "once saved always saved." That my friends is doctrines of devils!

Hbr 10:22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

What is this pure water we cleanse ourselves with?
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

The Word of God!!!!!!

Chad everyone here backs up thier beleifs with the Bible..

and that is all i have to say on this thread..you have to know when to hold them, when to fold them and when to walk away..

Ray; I think we have been reading the same book brother! Great post! Every one of those scriptures, appear in my Bible also. If we believe that book, each must be accounted for. These things are spiritually discerned and there is far too much carnality among men today, JMO. Having begun in The Spirit, are we now made perfect by the flesh? One must read the book and search for Gods instructions and will for their lives. Not study the book to find a means to support some personal view or pre-taught doctrine. As Chuck has so ably said, "we have all posted many times what WE believe". I have had to adjust my views often in order to aliegn with something God has enlightened me to. This is one of those things that I saw differently 5 years ago. One must grow in Grace AND in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Many have became so earthly good, that they are no longer of any heavenly value.
Keep up the good work.

ful·fil
1. to carry out, or bring to realization, as a prophecy or promise.
2. to perform or do, as duty; obey or follow, as commands.
3. to satisfy (requirements, obligations, etc.): a book that fulfills a long-felt need.
4. to bring to an end; finish or complete, as a period of time: He felt that life was over when one had fulfilled his threescore years and ten.
5. to develop the full potential of (usually used reflexively): She realized that she could never fulfill herself in such work.

Christ fulfilled the Law. He carried it out. He satisfied it. He finished and completed it. The New could not be instated until the Old was completed.

Did Christ fail in his mission? Christ said He came to fulfil the Law, and He said not one jot or tittle would pass until all was fulfilled.

Noah was commanded to build an arc. Once he fulfilled that command, he was finished. He didn't have to keep building arcs until he died. Naaman was commanded to dip. Once he fulfilled that command, was he wrong because he didn't keep dipping until he died?

Not one jot or tittle shall pass....so, as I asked before, do you participate in stoning for certain offenses? Do you honor the sabbath (Saturday) and keep it holy? Do you offer up the best of your flock for burnt offerings?

Chuck, I ask that you read my post again, especially toward the end of the paragraph you c/p'd. Here's what it says.

I was just making a clarification. I am an individual, with individual beliefs. I know that there are a lot of folks that you can know what they believe by reading their church's bylaws--I'm not one of them (the Church of Christ doesn't have bylaws anyway).

Anyhow, I'm just stating what I believe, and why. I get tired of the facts of what I believe getting twisted and misconstrued, so I try to set the record strait.

Chad, I have been told by many people what the Church of Christ believes and what it teaches. Some of them even write on this message board. However, I would rather listen to what a person tells me he believes rather than listen to what others tell me he believes.

I go to a Baptist church. I don't always agree with everything I hear there. I have never been in a church where I agree with everything that is taught there. I doubt that any such church exists for any of us. I believe we are accountable individually more than we will be accountable collectively as a member of any particular group.

Max Lucado is an example of what I am talking about. I understand he is a Church of Christ minister. That matters little to me. I have been blessed by reading many of his books. For me, the bottom line is this: Truth is where you find it. Sometimes you find it where you don't expect to. Conversely, sometimes you don't find it where you expect to. I don't know of any one person or any one church....that has a lock on truth. I've never known a perfect man. I believe there has only been one of those and we killed Him.

Wow, this is all very interesting but also can be very confusing. Much to interpret with all the different views.
Someone said this forum surpasses the Political forum, I don't know, I rarely visit either, usually only when I have a question.
