Default Judaism question?

Alex, I assume you'll be reading this.

In my sheltered, WASP upbringing, I came to know "Beth" ss a nice name for a girl. I have noticed that "Beth" precedes some names (not girls') in various religious contexts, "Beth Israel Hospital" and "Beth Shalom School" for instance.

So what is the meaning of "Beth" in those contexts?

Thanks!

Beth Means "House" , it is rooted in the letter Beit (B) which implies a woman of great wisdom.

Beth Israel= House of Israel , it can also be written in old Hebrew as Beit Israel
Beth Davi= House of David.
Etc Etc

Did any bread ever come out of Bethlehem ?

YES!

John 6:48-51 "I am the bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

And he was laid in a manger, a vessel from which the lowly animals, beasts of burden, come to feed! Nothing in the Gospel is accidental. Just goes to show how the New Testament is foretold in the Old & the Old Testament is revealed in the New. Thanks, Kosherboy!
