Default Does Evil Exist?

'Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists with life,' the student continues.. 'Now, sir, is there such a thing as
evil?'

Now uncertain, the professor responds, 'Of course, there is. We see it everyday It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.'

To this the student replied, 'Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.'

We need to know the God of peace…..the Lord is peace…the Jehovah-Shalom.
In Judges 6:24, Gideon built an altar to God….notice what Gideon called it….

So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord is Peace…….(NIV)

The KJV….phrases it differently….it says
Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord, and called it Jehovah-shalom.

God is our peace.

Amen Rich.. This evening as I was doing some last minutes of work on the computer I had a Christian program in the background, as they were singing praises.. The Spirit of God fell on me and was overwhelmed. (I'll leave at at that, some here don't believe in the tongue things..lol)
I also received some great news regarding my six year old grand son (Malachi) and some blood test that we've all been praying over. So I began praising and thanking God, I felt His Peace overflowing... What an experience. I feel so sorry for those that do not know Him. Actually I feel sorry for Christians that don't experience all the good things of the Spirit!

This is a subject that gets addressed a lot in philosophy. The best answer runs along the lines of the story in the first post. Evil isn't so much a thing in itself, but a lack of or deprivation of something good that should be there.

In other words, goodness is missing and it shouldn't be.
