Some people insist that America should be a Christian nation. Do you think that is right? I thought our goal in creating America is religious freedom. That is a Theocracy, not a Democracy. Isn't that why we are at war in the Middle East, to spread democracy? It seems to me to be treason.

It would never happen here. Although some of the Middle East countries might be classified as theocracies, our 1st Amendment rules it out. Besides, even if we decided to be a theocracy, we could never agree on whose theology would be the basis for it. I'm pretty sure you would find substantial disagreement on how a "Christian Nation" would be organized and what the rules should be.
We tend to refer to our country as a Christian nation mostly because the majority of us are, at least nominally, Christians
How about a sheepocracy?

The majority is slowing dwindling away, each year more and more Christians are turning away from the faith.. But then again, this must happen before Jesus comes back, and He is coming back soon, regardless if one believes or not..
The Founding Fathers of the United States made it very clear when they wrote the Constitution of the United States that the United States was to be a secular state. They rejected any language that would allow this country to become a theocracy. There is no mention of God, Christ, Christianity or the Bible in the Constitution. The values and philosophies contained in the Constitution were clearly derived from the views of the 18th Century Enlightenment philosophers who championed the Age of Reason and individual liberty over the divine right of kings.
However, there are apparently still people who would like the United States to be a theocracy. This past weekend I was reading about a suit in North Carolina that would remove an elected official there from office because he is an atheist. Those filing the suit claim that the North Carolina Constitution requires all elected officials to believe in God. Their attempt is doomed to failure since Article 6 of the U.S. Constitution expressly prohibits any religious test to hold public office and the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states that any provisions in any of the state constitutions that violate the U.S. Constitution are unenforceable.
To turn the United States into a theocracy would require significant amendment of the Constitution. While the theocrats might get a majority of Congress and the state legislatures to officially make the United States a "Christian" nation ruled by the bible rather than the present Constitution, it is fortunately highly unlikely that they could get the two thirds needed to amend the Constitution. While we should not let down our guard, I think the 2008 election was an indication that religious fundamentalists will not succeed in turning this country into a theocracy.
A true Theocracy can only exist when the very God you worship is here in person.
This of course will be so in the near future and the US will be no more, neither any nation be the same again as the wicked will be removed and only the save will remain.
Amen !
