Default Calvinism

Anybody here see any truth in the so-called "doctrines of grace"?

Primarily...these ideas.....
Total Depravity (also known as Total Inability and Original Sin)
Unconditional Election
Limited Atonement (also known as Particular Atonement)
Irresistible Grace
Perseverance of the Saints (also known as Once Saved Always Saved)

Seems to me the whole thing takes man's free will out of the equation, as if we have no part in our own salvation... Also seems like Calvin viewed God's mercy as limited.

The doctrine of grace is the foundation of our faith, else we would be our own saviors!

Yes, grace is essential. However, calvinists refer to the basic 5 teachings mentioned in my last post as "the doctrines of grace". Are these things true in your estimation?

(by the way Rev.,....uou have a great website.....enjoy it very much.)

  1. Total depravity (Original Sin)
  2. Unconditional election (God's Election)
  3. Limited atonement (Particular Redemption)
  4. Irresistible grace (Effectual Calling)
  5. Perseverance of the Saints
Maybe we should take one point at a time..... Especially here on this forum, we argue more here than we do in the political forum. LOL..

To be honest with you, I've studied Calvin, but that was a long time ago. All I know, that I'm saved by grace and if I say, once saved always saved, then I get bashed by those that don't believe as I do. So some things I don't dare say here.

I try to leave theology out of this forum, as we are all brothers in Christ with divers theologies.

It matters so little what someone thinks. The issue is what does God say. Instead of baiting someone into the issue and then getting him attacked, just tell us what you see in the scripture and we will debate with you. My gut feeling is that you are going to try promoting your slant on the doctrine, Is that true?

Indeed, the important issue is what God says. On that one, you are correct.

As is often the case, Snooky, your negativism has gottten the best of you in regard to my post as it often does in others.

I was not seeking to bait anyone...why do you judge me like that?

I am not looking to get anyone attacked....again, why do you presume that...and why do you judge me like that?

Your gut feeling is incorrect...I suggest you see a physician about your gut.

I am not at all interested in promoting my slant. I see some Biblical truth in some points of the "doctrines of grace". In others I do not.

Overall, these Huntingnet forums are no where near as popular as they once were. I was simply hoping to spark a little discussion in what appears to be an area of this forum that draws little interest. Sometimes, my head count of the persons who are currently viewing this religion forum is 1 or 2. Most of the time, when I look at the forums there in no one in the religion forum.

With the reception I have received here...I can understand why.

Mr. C., not that it's an excuse, but most of us that have been around this board for a while have become suspicious when someone "new" pops in. The reason is, lately, there's been several folks come in just to cause problems. The nature of this board is usually to address questions sincerely, but lately when doing that you often get a slap in the face as a "thank you".

I don't mind replying to your question, but honestly you'll have to put it in simpler terms for me to understand. I've studied Calvinism a bit, but it was a long time ago.
