Default Vatican Looking For Aliens?!?

I know everyone hates me, but I think all should check this out! The Pope has called upon a team of scientists ( I know, shocking! haha ) to shed light on extraterrestrials!

The interest in science is not new for the Church. There's no reason to think there isn't life in other parts of the universe. I don't think intelligent life is very close to us though.

A planet ruled by sheep? Well, probably not

Aren't you assuming something for which you don't have facts to support? Even Darwin didn't have this many gaps in his theory.

Why do you find it so shocking that the pope would call on scientists? Even the Galileo episode shows the church heavily involved in science--Galileo's principle opponents (at least at first) were the Vatican astronomers. It was only later that it got into theological issues and arguments over authority to interpret scripture.

Many people don't realize this, but the Big Bang theory was developed by a priest in the Vatican named Le Matre. He was a Jesuit.

This is also a legitimate topic for the Vatican to take up. Finding life, especially intelligent life, would be first of all the concern of science. However, there'd be potential theological implications that would result that would need to be dealt with. They're worth thinking about ahead of time.

It is not actually shocking, I was being somewhat sarcastic. Lately everyone has been talking about science vs. religion. Some people believe that science is not the business if the church. I find it awesome!

I may have mentioned this before, but there was a serious gap in Darwin's theory when he first proposed it. Estimates of the age of the earth during his time proposed about 200,000 years which Darwin knew would not allow enough time for natural selection to provide for the diversity of species we see. Of course, now that the age of the earth has been determined to be about 4-5 billion years, there's no problem.

We sheep, of course, are a result of unnatural selection, that is, selective breeding You get the same effect as natural selection It just happens a lot more quickly
