For those who profess that science & religion are incompatible
" For the last fifty years, virtually all historians of science--including A. C. Crombie, David Lindberg, Edward Grant, Stanley Jaki, Thomas Goldstein, and J. L. Heilbron--have concluded that the Scientific Revolution was indebted to the Church. The Catholic contribution to science went well beyond ideas--including theological ideas--to accomplished practicing scientists, many of whom were priests. For example, Father Nicholas Steno, a Lutheran convert who became a Catholic priest, is often identified as the father of geology. The father of Egyptology was Father Athanasius Kircher. The first person to measure the rate of acceleration of a freely falling body was yet another priest, Father Giambattista Riccioli. Father Rosco Boscovich is often credited as the father of modern atomic theory. Jesuits so dominated the study of earthquakes that seismology became know as ' the Jesuit science.' And that is far from all. Even though some thirty-five craters on the moon are named for Jesuit scientists and mathematicians, the Church's contributions to astronomy are all but unknown to the average American.... the Church's true role in the development of modern science remains one of the best-kept secrets of modern history."

I actually did hear on the news that the Pope is assembling a team of scientists to learn more about evolution and other "new sciences" I wish I could find a news site that had the info!

Like I said on a different thread, it depends on what you call "science".
Either way, science isn't the business of the Church, at least if you believe the Bible.

I'm not Catholic, and it wouldn't matter if I was--doesn't change what the Bible says.

It's my understanding that you will get the same science education in a Catholic school, primary through college, that you would get in a public school.
I hope they learn about the superiority of wool over polyester

It does sound like some interesting topics and theories will be discussed.

...The Vatican's interest in extraterrestrial life began last year, when Father Jose Gabriel Funes, the chief papal astronomer and a Jesuit priest, announced that the existence of alien life does not contradict the Bible. This revelation opened up a wide range of theological implications, including the possibility of aliens who don't need salvation, since their ancestors didn't commit original sin in the Garden of Eden....
