.......on the pollitical board really drives home something I've believed for a long time. Some "scientists" and some segements of "science" are nothing more than puppets for polliticians, with the strings being money and power.
I've never believed in "global warming", at least not to the extent that is will destroy the earth because God said He will be the one that destroys it--that's good enough for me. However, "science" has been bantering about the destruction of the earth since at least the 70's, when "global cooling" was going to be our end. Then it was "global warming", and most recently "global climate change" when all the latest predictions fell flat.
I'll get to the point. I feel that "evolutionary science" falls into the same category. There's no profit in proving that evolution is a fraud, a fairy tale, and scientifically impossible. To the contrary, there's almost limitless money and power to garner by keeping it alive. "Specialists" in the field would be cutting their own throats, not to mention putting themselves out of a job, if they presented or acknowledged all the facts.
Just this past week I was in FL visiting with my mother in law. We saw a gecko drop it's tail--while the tail continued to writhe and wiggle, the little lizard made it's escape. I couldn't help but think--there are people who believe that this happened by chance. I guess the little booger's ancestors had a meeting and figured it all out, then learned to make their tail detach at will. The ones that didn't agree or missed the meeting, well....they either aren't around or decided to grow to a size that didn't require them to make a run for it while a predator ate on the portion they left behind.
And that is so much easier to believe than the Biblical account of creation? I just don't understand that line of thinking.

1. As a planet the Earth will be destroyed according to the latest calculations by astronomers but it will not be by God and will not happen soon. In about 5 billion years the Sun will have exhausted the hydrogen in its core and will begin to fuse helium into carbon through the triple alpha process. This will raise the temperature of the Sun's core from about 15 million K to over 100 million K and cause it to expand and enter the red giant phase. The Sun's outer envelope will reach the orbit of the Earth causing the Earth to lose orbital angular momentum and eventually spiral into the deep layers of the Sun and experience complete vaporization.
2. Anthropogenic global warming is controversial but we should keep a few things in mind. We know that carbon dioxide in the aptmosphere traps heat. If there were no CO2 in our aptmosphere the entire Earth would a temperature that would be perpetually below freezing and life would be impossible. We also know that the surface temperature of Venus is much higher than that of Mercury even though it is further from the Sun. This is due to the high levels of CO2 in the Venusian aptmosphere. In the past 100 years the aptmospheric concentration of CO2 in the Earth's aptomosphere has gone from 280 ppm to 381 ppm. Human activity has been the only reason scientists have been able to identify for this increase. At what level of CO2 in the aptmosphere does global warming become inevitable?
3. "There's no profit in proving that evolution is a fraud, a fairy tale, and scientifically impossible." Are you kidding me! Ken Ham at Answers in Genesis is making a fortune selling the psuedoscience of young Earth creationism and Kent Hovind, currently in his fourth year of a 10 year sentence in the Federal penitentuary, was also doing very well marketing scientific ignorance in his creation science DVDs and tapes before he was sent to prison for fraud. There is also the ICR and the Discovery Institute profiting from their creation science ministries' scientific misinformation. Young Earth creationists are some of the most brazen fraudsters around.
Right--brought to you by the same folks who can't accurately predict the weather conditions for next week. Of course who is going to be around 5 billion years from now to say "I told you so!"?

Anthropogenic global warming is controversial...
Of course it is--it wouldn't be profitable otherwise.

We do? I didn't realize we had landed probes there.

Yet we are in a cooling phase--imagine that. That's why the alarmists had to change their moniker from "global warming" to "global climate change". I could be wrong, but didn't the 1970's occur in the last 100 years? That was when "global cooling" was the reason the sky was falling.

Ok, you got me on that one. I should have been more specific. There's no profit in the accepted "scientific" community, or in the pollitcal world, by proving evolution is a fraud. Obviously you can scratch up an individual here or there, but by comparison even the likes of Kent Hovid won't amount to a drop in the proverbial bucket full of "evolutionary scientists".

Really? Other than Kent Hovid, care to give any examples? Are they making a living off gov't grants by proving nothing like "evolutionary scientists" are?

I feel that LBR is bashing science, so as a future scientist, I will defend myself. For the record I am not bashing religion, I am just comparing it to science. I find this very entertain.

The same can be said for religion, just insert "church" instead of "science"

Same can go for Religion. Science cannot predict the exact time the world will be destroyed, and either can Christians. Also, people have been arguing when the earth will end since the bible was written.
I guess the little booger's ancestors had a meeting and figured it all out
Do you realize what you just said? In a nut shell, that is what God did, according to Christianity.

I guess it depends on what you call "science" nick. If you call vague referances to "billions" of years in the past or future "science", then yes I'm bashing it. Personally, that isn't science to me. Science is real and isn't afraid of facts, at least in my opinion.
I agree with your first two points. Some so-called preachers, and I imagine some entire religions, worry more about politics and power than the Gospel. The Bible tells us in plain words that nobody will know when the end will come--even the apostles didn't know. Just because man corrupts it with opinion doesn't change what the Bible says.
On the third "point", you really don't have a clue. I still can't follow a line of thinking that believes a bunch of lizards had a think-tank and figured it out rather than an omnipotent, omnipresent, eternal and all-powerful God having the wisdom to go with a plan and design. I reckon it would bother me a great deal if I did understand that way of thinking.

What advances the astronomers have made since the days of Daniel the prophet. Dan 2:2+10 I'm sure that as a student of science, you also learned that astronomy and astrology are one and the same=a study of the sun, moon, stars, planets, ect. and their influence upon the future.
What was it that they declared in the days of Bablyon and king Nebuchadnezzar? THERE IS NOT A MAN ON EARTH that can shew the Kings matter!! Verse 11: there is NONE OTHER that can shew it before the King, EXCEPT the gods, whose dwelling is not with men.
"OH" how short is our memories!!

While it is true that astronomy and astrology were closely related in antiquity, they began to diverge in the 16th century and now have no relationship whatsoever. Astronomers use mathematics and physics, along with very advanced technology such as the Hubble Space Telescope, to study the physical Universe and learn the nature of objects it contains such as stars, planets and galaxies. It makes no supernatural predictions about future events in the lives of humans. It does make predictions about what will happen to astronomical bodies based on the laws of Physics. We have measured the mass of the Sun and its luminosity and using the relationship E=Mc2 can calculate how long the Sun can shine.
Astrology on the other hand is, like young Earth creationism, pseudoscience that makes predictions on the basis supernatural means.

I think astrology has much more in common with "evolutionary science" than creationism. Predictions that are so vague or so distant that nobody can disprove them....or prove them.
How about that list of young earth creationists who are "brazen fraudsters"? Surely you wouldn't make such an accusation without something to base it on....would you?
I'd like to know who they are so I can avoid them. I wish I could earmark my tax dollars so they wouldn't be wasted on vague predictions of what might happen billions of years from now, or what someone thinks happened billions of years ago, but unfortunately I don't get to do that. Since creationists are not generally funded by tax dollars like "evolutionary scientists", a list of the frauds would be handy in case I wanted to donate to them.
