Default How Would You Teach Someone To Pray?

Lets say, the person, says.
I can pray to myself, but when I am in front of other people, my mind goes blank.
I can't think of the words to say.
I want to pray like others, but its just not there.

And another person says, When I read the bible, about 5 to 10 minutes, I am going to sleep.
I can't read any thing without getting sleepy.
I can't remember anything I read, because im so sleepy.

OK Back to the teaching some one to pray.
It has been on my heart for a long time.

Does any one have any resorses, on how to pray, or how to teach a person how to pray?

Thank You

jrbsr

Here are a few prayers I have prayed in the past...{ - :

A. Once while fishing a crazed ***** came at me in the woods...my prayer
"God .please help me." I then took my fishing rod and starting swinging in his face.
God heard my prayer..and he was the one who began praying ..real fast like.as well..{ -:

B. Once while riding in the front of a car being driven by a HIGHLY intoxitant individual I realized we were driving straight into a concrete pillar..my prayer.
"Please God!!"
God heard my prayer..I lived..3 teeth knocked out ..but I lived.

Summary..it does not take long prayers or a prayer method..Romans 10 says,"And whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

C. Now I am much older in the Lord..I pray the Word..I know what God's Word says and I use alot of scripture when I pray..I also sing the Word..I also talk to God as if I were talking to my closest friend...in which He actually is.

There is alot of direction in how to pray in the Word..Here's a few off the top of my head,,

a. Pray for leaders.
b. Cast all your cares and concerns upon the Lord..
C. Give thanks while praying with sublication..tell God you love Him.
D. As you pray..beleive that you have already recieved it.."Without faith you can not please God."
E. Confess your sins.."If I regard iniquity in heart HE will not hear me."
F. Make prayers short and simple..the hypocrites { Matt. 6} beleive they will be heard by their long prayers..non sense.God knows your needs before you even verbalize them.
G.Ask in Jesus name.
H.Praying according to his will..His Word tells us what His will is.

If you are wordless...open up to the book of Psalms..get on your knees and begin to read out loud.

Read a parable that Jesus used about prayer...{ -:

Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector

Like 18: 9 Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else: 10 “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer[b]: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not a sinner like everyone else. For I don’t cheat, I don’t sin, and I don’t commit adultery. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! 12 I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ 14 I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Just talk to God like you would talk to any close intimate friend. Afterall, He knows everything about you anyway. When you are praying publicly, do the same thing. Don't, as I have heard so many others do, pray to the people hearing your prayer. The scripture says when it comes to prayer that God is not impressed with many and fancy words but rather a heart that is rent and truthfull.

I agree with Jim--just be sincere, and don't try to put on a speech for the people around you. Try to consider them and their problems if you are leading a prayer for a group, but keep in mind you are talking directly to God.

Just ask the Lord to bless the things you ask from your heart........I also agree with others here about not praying written prayers.......Everyday there are things in our hearts that we pray for.............Just end it with , In Jesus name, Amen!
