Default Your opinons not trying to start a fight... haha that doesnt sound good.

I used to be a believer but I now consider myself to be an Atheist. But with all the bad in the world and most of this is due to religion how can you all be so faithful? You either are a good person or you are not. I don't believe in god and yet am a good person I love my family I dont steal I don't cheat I am successful and yet I dont understand why their are not more atheists... Their are approx 700 million atheists in the world and approx 1.5 billion Christians. Because if you don't know already Christians are extremists. They push their views on everyone they meet either on purpose or unintentional but its there. And with all the religions out their everyone thinks theirs is right... If one does happen to be right the rest of the world is screwed lol. I find it very comical that all Christians say theirs is right or all Muslims say theirs is right... Then the more recent religions such as Scientology and Jehovah witnesses and Mormans say each of theirs is right which even I find to be utterly retarded... especially Scientology I am no expert on any religion and don't claim to be but like most of you I would like answers.

I don't agree with you that the bad in the world is due to religion. Lots of people use, and have used in the past, religion as an excuse to abuse other groupls of people.

I believe my religion is "right" but I don't follow the practice of claiming that people who don't agree with me are going to spend eternity dog paddling around in a lake of molten sulfur, or whatever brimstone is supposed to be.

I would feel just as comfortable being Shinto as Roman Catholic.

I think there are loads of important precepts in the Bible which are typically honored in the breach.

You have never grasped the true concept of christianity. It has nothing to do with your being a good person, or an evil person. It is all about HIM (Jesus the Christ) being a perfect sacrifice for your sins. Its not what you do, it is what HE DID.
Don't feel bad though, most of the regulars on here haven't learned that either.

Christ died for the lost not for saved.
Self serving deeds will not earn you the Kingdom of God, Deeds are like dirty rags to God, they have no value for him, because no matter how perfect you think they are , they can never reach the level of God's.
You can only be justified through the blood of the son of God.

But I will agree with you that "religions" Have cause many a heart ache for humanity, but Christianity is not technically a religion although men might say it is, you see religion is what man does to get to God or be Godly like, Christianity is What God did so men can get to Him easily, so he gives you a choice, which one would you choose ,your own efforts or God's effort ?
Shalom

I dont see most problems of the world is the cause of religion, or at least Christains. There have been wars in the different sects of Christains and others religions, but you look deep enough it is more about retaining power and money.
The Bible tells us to choose this day who we will serve. You have the right by the word of God. Of course the Koran says you should be put to death. A Christain doesnt want you to be lost so they plead to you, but thats all.
As far as why there are not more atheists. My view it takes more faith to believe there is no God, than it does to believe in God.
As I was watching the Ben Stien movie about scientists being ostracized by evolution community. It seems that free speech is not allowed in scientific world. A scientist said the gain of genetic material in natural selection has never been see or proven, in fact it was just the opposite, the loss of genetic material comes with natural selection . Which is a death nail for evolution. I dont think he was a creationtist, but a stickler for deductive reasoning.

This is an interesting topic with a lot of subtle concepts. Kudos for bringing it up.

Although sometimes founders of religion(s) tell followers to kill/murder/plunder, etc. other people, those followers have the ability to choose to follow those directions or not. More often than not, followers/leaders in religions are misinterpreting the dogma or just acting on their own base decisions.

I've always found it humorous when people say they're an atheist and then offer some statement about "religions" and "religious people." It's funny when you consider a religion is fundamentally what you believe about God, a deity(s), supernatural, etc. or not. Being an atheist is a religion or at minimum a religious choice.

As for why there are more people claiming to be of one religion or another than simply an atheist, I think the old saying that there are no atheists in foxholes probably has a lot of merit.

Just so you know, your relatives are apes...

Your post almost convinces me that you are correct. With a little more evolution, You may abtain the advanced mental state of your forefathers.

"how can you all be so faithful?"
Cowboy...

We are not doing nothing..God's Spirit in us gives us the power we need. If salvation was of the flesh..no one could last..We are Born Again..by the Spirit. Like Peter told Jesus "Where shall we go, thou hast the Words of Life."

I am a Deist which I believe offers more than either Atheism or Christianity. Deists believe in a Creator, Nature's God, who started the Universe. I think this is plausible, and even necessary to believe, since Physics can explain the Universe up until 10 to the minus 43 seconds after the Big Bang but not at t= 0, the Big Bang itself. Therefore, I do not accept Atheism. As for Christianity and other revealed religions, they are nothing but hearsay since only a select few are privy to the supposed revelations. Deism rejects scripture as well as any other divine intervention in the history of the Universe since the creation such as miracles. Deism is based on the application of human reason which accepts the concept of a Creator but rejects the superstition of revealed religions.
