Default Scoffers In The Last Days

Scoffers In The Last Days
These people, who saw Jesus, who saw what He did (the healing of the sick, the teaching that He
proclaimed, the fulfillment of the Scriptures that took place in and through Him.) -- these people
became willfully ignorant of the fact that He was God. They became willfully ignorant of the fact
that God Himself was hanging on the Cross paying for the very sins that they were committing at the
foot of the Cross.
Today, people are no different. Even Christians find themselves in the position of asking the same
questions: "Where is the promise of His Coming?" We read what Peter and Paul wrote almost two
thousand years ago. They thought that His Coming would be at any moment. The same is true of
many Christians down through the centuries. Today, we are told that the end times are near and we
think or say: "sure, I've heard it all before. The same thing has been said before, and I'm sure that it
will be said in the future." We can become blinded by the seemingly unchanging world and can fall
into the trap of passively, if not actively, mocking God.
These are the last days. In no other time of history has the mocking of God been so great. People
seem not to even bother asking the question: Where is the promise of His Coming? For them the
question has been answered by the proclamation of His death -- not His death on the Cross, but with
the slogan God is dead." This slogan has been popular in the last 20 years or so. The slogan, "God is
dead", would seem to be the ultimate mocking! The people at the foot of the Cross did not doubt that
God was; they just did accept the fact that Jesus was God.
Today, those who say that "God is dead" do so because they believe that He never was!
When we Christians hear these type of statements we become offended and angry. After all, they are
talking About our God, who knows us and who sent His Son. They are talking about our Savior. But
there is a message in what these people are saying. They don't realize it, but there is an extremely
important message! It is not that what they are saying is true; but that it is being said is vital. The fact
that People are saying these things is an indication that we are indeed, living in the last times. It is a
witness to the facts that we are living in the shadow of eternity. When we hear mockings like this,
we should have hope, and confidence, and knowledge, that He is truly coming! Jude, in his short
letter, reinforces this fact:
But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:

AMEN. The fool saith IN HIS HEART, there is no God. He doesn't whisper it with his lips, He shouts in in his daily life.

Well, I'm not a scoffer. I know it'll come some day but it could be tomorrow or it could be several billion years from now. I'm not sure we can get a really reliable handle on it.

I've noticed it before, but it just occured to me that the passage in KB's siggy panel about how "it is near" was written maybe three thousand years ago.

(The sheep have hit the hay.)

There are other characteristics of scoffers than complacency that we have to check ourselves against!

Jud 1:18They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires."
Jud 1:19These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

Changing the the Truth of the Word of God to live a life how we want to live not how we are commanded to is sin or ungodly desires!
Following natural instincts such as, "That scripture doesnt make since so I will go with what is scientific." For example evoulution over creation.
2Pe 3:3First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.

Once again we see in first Peter that own evil desires are involved! We are given a guideline to live by. Some people just cant put down the flesh and accept it.(scoffers) Satan had the same problem following the rules. Got him kicked out of Heaven. Why would God let a mass multitude of the same into the new Heaven?

Well the END could come at any time, this afternoon of millions of years from now. However, one's personal end could also come at any time and it won't be millions of years from now.

We are supposed to be ready regardless, 'cause we don't know.

You are correct. We must keep oil in our lamps!
