Daniel interpreted the kings vision of the great image as being 5 great kingdoms. Babylon the head, or 1st kingdom, then Medo-persia, followed by Alexanders kingdom, (Greece) and Rome being the legs of iron with feet and toes of iron mixed with mirey clay. The 5th kingdom being the kingdom of God. The stone cut out of the mountian without hands. There is some difference of openion as to when the 5th kingdom smites the 4th kingdom.
You bible scholars help us with your imput. When did, or when does the 5th kingdom smite the 4th?
Let me throw out a couple of thoughts for concideration.
The overthrow of th 4th kingdom is also a violent event. It doesn't follow the patern of a "little flock" gently converting the world. Daniel says, "Then" was the iron, (Rome), the brass, (greece), the silver, (Persia), and the Gold, (bablyon) broken to peice and become as the chaff, and the wind carries them away. Daniel 2:44 it shall break in peices and consume all these kingdoms.
Where does it smite the image? Note the timeline works downward from the head to the toes in order. The 10 toes of the image wasn't developed for 450 years AFTER the crucifion of Christ. Wouldn't it be reasonable to say that if the 5th kingdom was set up at the 1st advent, that the image would have been smitted in the thighs, and not the toes?
Here are some scriptures to concider. The Kingdom was still future at the time of the Passover. Matt 26:29. Christ didn't set it up at his ascention. Acts 1:6. Flesh and blood cannot inherit it. 1 Cor. 15:50. It is a matter of promise to the Apostles and all who love God. James 2:5. It is promised in the future unto the little flock. Luke 12:32. The saints will enter into it through much tribulation. Acts 14:22. It is set up when Christ shall judge the living and the dead. II Tim 4:1. It is to be when he shall come in his glory with all his holy angels. Matt 25:31-34.
Snooky asked? There is some difference of openion as to when the 5th kingdom smites the 4th kingdom.

This will happen at the end of the 7 year tribulation, at the second coming of Christ.
The Stone that falls from the sky and destroys the Image is Christ himself.
So the Fifth Kingdom will give away to the 6th Giving in a step closer to entering the Lord's Sabbath which is eternity at peace.

the 5th Kingdom which is Christ's kingdom upon the earth..most likely the 1000 year reign of Christ with those who He chooses to reign with Him..
In Daniel I was taught and believe that there is such as a thing as proleptic prophesy...meaning something can happen in one age and then happen in another..Most of the things in Daniel have happened,,and yet I believe it will happen again such as the Common Market etc..Many of the things in Matthew 24 had already been fulfilled in 70 A.D. and yet they will happen again..and many have not been fulfilled and they will be fulfilled.
Concerning the toes of the statue...
Loosely speaking, the feet of the statue might be considered to be the Ottoman Empire (1299–1923 A.D.). This was an Islamic transitional stage between the Roman Empire and a present-day union of many nations.
The final “empire” or “kingdom”—a merger of the 2 feet and 10 toes of the statue, as an outgrowth of the legs of iron—will be one where “the people will be a mixture and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay” (Daniel 2:43). (This very well may be respresented by the European Union, plus all the nations that are a part of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and the European Neighbourhood Policy.) Ultimately, after the destruction of all the kingdoms described by Daniel, “God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed” because it will “endure forever” (2:44).
In the dream, all the segments of the statue were “broken to pieces at the same time” by a rock, which then “became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth” (Daniel 2:35). Even though the empires composing the statue have spanned over 2½ millennia, they can be considered, figuratively speaking, as one colossal empire which has had authority and dominion over Israel throughout most of the ages. Much of this domination has been Islamic in nature. It will come to an end when Israel’s Messiah comes and destroys it—all at once, and once for all.

Proleptic Prophesy is based in Ecclesiates chapter 1 9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun. 10 Is there anything of which one can say,
"Look! This is something new"?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
I agree with it to a certain point but many things in Daniel are still future events.
Shalom

Thanks for the response brethern. I was beginning to think no one was interested. Daniel is one of the richest books that God has intrusted unto mankind. There is found in it some of the greatest lessons we could ever learn concerning detication, concrecration, faith, holiness, and overall living for God. Ezekiel sets Daniel forth as one of perhaps the three most pietous and upright men of all times. Ezek.14:19-20. Daniels wisdom was proverbial even at his young age. Ezek 28:3. But most of all our Lord proclaimed him to be a prophet of God. Matt 24:15-16. Daniels prophecy is perhaps the most remarkable of any found in all the scriptures. It is most certainly the most comprehensive. It was the first prophect giving a consecutive history from the time given, unto the end of time.Daniel was very careful to name names of the rulers during those times, and also the kingdoms over which they ruled. He fortold exact numbers of days and years, tying up every loose end so no one could fail to see the accuracy of Gods prophetic word.
The prophecy of the great image followed a set pattern from God. Each kingdon reigned until overthrown by the succeding kingdom. The ten toes kingdom must also remain until the stone hewn out of the mountian , made without hands crushes it into chaft as drive by the wind. Then the succeding Kingdom must reign which will never be destroyed. It is set up in the days of these kings. How could this have been fulfilled at the first advent as some teach?

And one of the First prophets to announce a future resurrection of the dead in Clear terms.

While men are singing the praises of the lastest "tele-vangelist" and "radio pastor", I can't get excited about them when there are such men as Daniel to read, and study about.
Ask what ones favorate "christian rock" song is and you get multiple replies and the thread goes on, and on. What think ye of Daniel? Who? what is his band called? He saing what song? Never heard of him.
Though we have a more minute account of his youth that possibly any other prophet, yet his birth and linage are left in obscurity, except that he was of the royal line.
Daniel first appears among the captives of Judah, in the 1st year of Nebuchadnezzar at the commencement of the 70 years capivity in 606 BC. Jeremiah and Habakkuk had uttered their prophesies. Ezekiel and Obadiah soon began to prophsey, but finished their work long before Daniel's final utterance. Only three prophets were to arise after Daniels death, Haggia, Zachariah, and Malachi.
Most of Daniels time was spent as prime minister of great Babylon, and at the same time maintaining one of the most notable examples of a servant of the true God. Finding time ever day to pray morning, noon, and night. What a rebuke his life will be to most who without a hundredth of his responsibilitys, cannot find time to live a christian life in this world of ease and aboundance. Daniel died in Shusan the palace about 530 BC at the age of 94 years. His age likely was why he didn't return to Judea under the proclaimation of Cyrus, Ezra 1:1.
In Daniel we find the tale of two cities. Lets look at it briefly. Babylon was the greatest city until its time, and likely there has be none to compare unto it unto this day. Concide these facts. Situated in the garden of the east, with the Euphrates river running through the center of the city. Layed out in a perfect square, 60 miles in circumference. Its walls 15 miles x 15 miles square. Three hundred fity feet high and eighty seven feet thick, made of brick and mortor that would not burn. A mote 60 miles in length around the walls. The mote equal in depth and width as the walls. Walls also protected the city from attack from the river as each bank had walls equal to the outer walls. Fifty streets divided the city into 676 squares. Each street being 150 feet wide, being strait and level, crossing each other at right angles. One hundred fifry gates of solid brass. A gate at each end of the street, and two gates, one on each side of the river through the city. Its hanging gardens and terraces rising to the hight of the walls. The temple of Belus was 3 miles in circumference. Two royal palaces, one 3 1/2 and the other 8 miles in circumference, connected by an underground tunnel under the Euphrates River.
Yet amidest all this splender, The Lords chridren hanged their harps upon the willows of the Euphrates and wept when they remembered Zion.
Concider now the city that awaits all the children of The Lord, from the first unto the last will have access along with Daniel. A city 1500 miles in circumference without walls of brick and stone, but rather of precious stones and jasper. Whose streets are not polished stone, but of transparent gold. Whose river isn't the mournful waters of the Euphretes, but rather the River of Life. Whose music isn't the mournful songs of captives, played upon earthly harps, but psalms of victory over death, hell, and the grave accompanied by angels playing harps of gold. Whose light isn't the light of the sun and moon, or worldly lamps, but the Lamb and glory of God is the light thereof. We shall not enter as captives entering with a heavy heart, but as exiles returning to their Fathers house. Such words as bondage, servitude, want be heard, but will be replaced by the sweet words of home, freedom, peace, purity, unutterable bliss, and never ending life, will flow from the lips along with continual praise unto God.
Yea, our mouths shall be filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing, when the Lord shall turn again the captivity of Zion. Ps 126;1-2 + Rev 21: 1-27
Chapter 7 is filled with priceless treasures of prophetic truth, revelation and exposure. The 4 beasts are the same 4 kingdoms of the great image with a little here, and a little there to bring things into a clear, sharp focus.
Ch.7:13-14. I saw in the night visions, and behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days and they brough him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the people, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
Was this receiving of the Kingdom, an event that transpired upon earth, on in the Heavenly Temple at the close of his priestly work in the santuary? Refer to verses 7-8.
We should be as anxious as was Daniel to find the understanding of all these things.
The beasts and kingdoms have been explained, the prophet has taken us on a jounery throught the sequence of event down through the complete destruction of the 4th and final earthly kingdom, the final subversion of all worldly governments. Now what is next? V 18 "The saints shall take the Kingdom", and will possess it forever.
However we must remember that through much tribulation shall we enter into the Kingdom. Immediatly after the tribulation shall appear the sign
of The Son of Man in heaven.
V:21-22 I beheld, and the same horn ( the little papal horn that overthrew 3 horns, the horn of the Heruli, the horn of the Ostrogoths, and the horn of the Vandals). Ten horns+ten kingdoms, the little horn must also be a Kingdom, BUT it is diverse from the other ten. The 10 were political kingdoms, the little horn is a spiritual kingdom. Verse 21 I beheld and the same horn made war against the saints, and prevailed against them.
HERE IS THE TRIBULATION!! The mother and her daughters, (as the bond woman and her son mocked the son of promise). How long is the tribulation? Until the Ancient of days came: and the time came that the saints possessed the Kingdom.
