Default Speaking in Tongues

I was brought up in a Pentecostal church that spoke in tongues although I never spoke in tongues myself, but as an adult I attend a Church that does not speak or prophesie in tongues. I was just wondering what most of the people here believe about it.

Hey brother,
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday , today and forever..I spoke in tongues shortly after I was converted. I wasn't seeking the expereince or being prayed for. I was simply worshipping God on my guitar..Five soldiers were laughing and mocking me..all of a sudden I saw a bright light..and felt a tremendous power all over me..I fell to my knees to worship God..and as I opened my mouth to worship i found myself prasing God in another language..

I presently listen to a baptist preacher who does not speak in tongues..I have no problem with that.I don't beleive one has to speak in tongue to go to Heaven..after all ..it's a gift. Paul saiad, Do all speak with tongues? " the answer is no.

God bless,
C7

Not all receive such Gift, not all can perform healings, or preach and or teach, The Spirit will give each a different gift that one can bear and do.IMO

Not trying to sound smart, but what do you believe about it and do you feel that your missing out on something? More importantly, what does the Bible reveal to you about this gift?
We here will simply confuse the subject as some of us will tell you that's it's absolutley a necessary part of the salvation experiance while others will say that it is hog wash.
I see in Scripture that we should repent, be baptized in Jesus name and that we will be filled with the Holy Ghost. This experiance was demonstrated many times with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
I suggest you seperate yourself eventually from opinions and pray about it and search the Scripture for yourself. God bless you in Jesus name.

IMO. One who hasn't spoken in tongues has stopped short of the full blessing availabe to the believer. Therefore he is also not receiving the full benifits, joy, power, ect. purchased for him on Calvary.
After studying the Tabernacle and the workings of the Levites and priest, I would not say that one is lost if he doesn't speak in tongues, but why be content to minister out in the court, when one can enter in beyond the vail and minister in the presense of God. Its all a matter of consecration. All may come boldly before the throne of God, if they are willing to consecrate themselves as required of those who would serve in the Holy Place.
Repent, and be baptized everyone of you, and you shall receive the gift of The Holy ghost, for the promis IS UNTO YOU. Unto you shows something personal, as a wedding ring from the Bridegroom unto his bride.
After all it is JUST a gift. What bride would let let her wedding ring be past around and worn by other women? Why allow others to receive from the Bridegroom and not partake yourself?
Hannah couldn't stand to see Elkanah and Peninnah having children while she was barren. Hannah was the favored wife, but was missing the blessing of a son. Don't miss a blessin and gift that God wants you to partake of.
Abrahams servant went to find a bride for Issac. When he found her, the first thing he did was to give her gifts from the treasures of Abraham. Rebecca didn't refuse any of them, and began prepration for a journey to meet her bridegroom.
Esther in the time of her preparation to be presented unto the King, required nothing more than what the keeper of the women offered, and she was favored above all the young women and was taken as the bride of the King. We should want the gifts that our heavenly Father has given unto the Bride.
The master of the wedding supper provided all the invited guests with a wedding garment, I want to wear my garment that he provided. I want to be complete, lacking nothing when He appears. I want my vessel to be running over with oil.

Count me in, been doing it since 1968. I have no problem with those that chose not to believe. To me it's like driving a nice new car in Texas and not using the A/C. Tongues are not going to get you into heaven, just makes the trip there easier while we are here.

Chuck just wondering, what did the soldiers do then ? A lady in a church I attend , felt lead to go to another church, and was blessed mightly, and the pastor proceed to try to stop her, and then she prophesied to him, that he would die and not live. The next Sunday they were buring the pastor of that church.

Glad you asked Dangermouse..
Sometime in October of 1976 I had read my New Testament straight through while in the field for 30 days at the Eglin Airforce Base. At the end of the reading and the 30 days I was blessed with the Lord Jesus appearing to me..

SHortly after that I was wonderously saved..It was now about Nov. It was kind of lonely then because I was the only Christian in my army barricks. Everyone else was partying and I would simply get an army hymnal I borrowed from the chapel and learn new hymns on my guitar. I had a tract table beside my bunk and would often talk to the other soldiers about Christ Jesus. One fellow I was befreiending was Joseph Edgar. He had been straddling the fence.
The barricks we lived in was a long cement block building with no windows...

About 7 o Clock PM I turned to my hymnal and began to sing and play the hymn Have You Been Washed In The Blood. I noticed I was beginnning to feel very uneasy..an uneasiness I've never felt before..Then 5 black guys who had been drinking stood around me about 16 foot away in a semi circle..jumping , laughi8ng and cursing saying "Look at the God.)&)) idiot!" Inside my heart I heard.."Keep playing for me son."

I was about in verse 3 when I glanced at the 5 black men..when right in front of them was a bright white light as if someone took a picture with a big camera..and I glanced back at the hymnal..then inside of me I heard."That doesn't belong there." and I looked again..and the light was still there..I screamed "Oh my God!" I thought the rapture was here because I felt 1000s of volts going through my body..I wanted to praise the Lord and did not have the words..I fell to my knees in worship and I opened my mouth and I spoke loudly in an unknown language..

The 5 took a few steps backwards..and this is what I heard them say...
"Man that's serious stuff ..I heard that before."
"Yeah..don't ever make fun of him again."
"I know the language he spoke..he spoke in Italian."
"Let's get out of here."

It was very humbling..I had tossed my guitar on the bunk..I don';t think the 5 men saw the light..I found a nice little Pentecostal fellowship and they welcomed me and did not think my expereince was unusal at all..fact..the leader had had a few of the same encounters..

Thanks Dangermouse for allowing me the opportunity to remember that awesome expereince.
