Default Anybody Ever Read The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale

I hadn't..I thought it was a humanistic piece of garbage until MTHands encouraged me to read it..I'm almost done..It's vry powerfull//

I'll summarize real fast..IMHO it's more like a bridge between where you are now and where you would like to be in Christ..There is nothing new in the book that I already didn't know..the only difference is..all the things he talks about I passed off as foolishness...It really confirmed all along that it really was God speaking to me..it's just that some of the things seemed to easy...or childlike..It's good old faith teaching before it got corrupted by greed. I would encourage any beleiver that is stuck in Romans 7 who desires to live the life of Romans 8 to read the book. Lot's of practical exercixes...on memorizing scripture,,,giving thanks...loving all...seeing and beleiving for things before they are physically here. I can back up everything taught with scriptures..Thanks MT..it has helped me alot..I needed my beleiver primed.

Honestly,
I already knew about 90 percent of the things he speaks about BUT I thought it was my own foolish mind and just let it go..He makes alot of sense and as I read the concepts my heart was confirming those concepts with scripture..

That is very kind of you to burn those CDs Keith..I really appreciate it. I beleive the book was written in 1953 long before this doctrine got messed up.There's not one mention about money in the entire book..it's pretty much a faith builder..and to restore folks from inferiority.

Some of the nuggets most of us already know.
A. Beleive / see the answer when you pray.
B. Spend more time thanking God than asking..
C. Ask what ye will but always follow up but your will be done.
D. Speak God's Word through the day..stay away form nefative talk..
E. Read your Bible alot..
F. Pray alot.
G. Believe God's best for you..see it and live it..by faith
H. Pray for everyone..those you get along with and visa versa.../ never harbor bitterness
I.Be kindto all
J.Beleive that God loves you..see that too..forgive yourself.

ALL OF THESE EFFECT YOUR WELL BEING ..and the WELL BEING OF YOUR FAMILY..and others around you

This book does not promice anyone healing or riches BUT what it does do is will help motivate you to remove the ceiling tiles and lower your loved one down to Jesus..Jesus is the healer.

As most everyone knows, my mom was a cocktail waitress which means often dealing with difficult people. One of her coworkers gave her that book. When she finished she passed it on to me, an implied order to read it.

The book is excellent. It should be mandatory reading for all kids.

The book is especially helpful if you are a struggling Christian ..today I put one of his principle's to test..

In Walmart..about 12:00 I see this beautiful Spanish women wearing a shirt..IF YOU WANT IT ..JUST ASK.
[&o][&:][8D][:@]all kindsof thoughts began to play havoc. It sounds cute but trust me ..this stuff wars on my mind and spirit. Norman Vincent Peale suggest that I say I can do all things through Christ which strenghthens me..maybe 3 times..that may work for a new Christian but to many of us we need much more as the things of God become common place over years..and that is sad..

Scripturally .. we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ..so as I check with the cashier I began quietly but inwardlyrepeating the 23rd Psalm..{ Norman suggest to quote the scriptures out loud}

I mean folks it may sound silly but I was planning to do my best today..and my down fall sometimes starts with entertaining thoughts like these...
Anyway it seemed to work..until I got home...[&o]all alone..and I know me better than you all..If Satan can get a complete thought in me I'm usually fried..and all of us have been a Christian long enough so we are not ignorant of his devices..it all starts with a slimy suggestion internally.

Anyway..the thought came ..let's surf the n..I STOPPED RIGHT THERE..and began quoting the 23rd time ..three times.then.I read 2 pages of Norman Peale and I crashed..I had been fishing all morning.

I just awoke..and to be honest with ya ..I feel a little stronger now..and this is pretty much what the book will do..

Also , my wife came home from work..as she began talking about some of the folks she saw at work today..in a positive way..BUT, as she mentioned a couple of names it brought bad vibes..NORMAN..along with God's Word says those bad vibes must be fixed..you can not have your prayers answered or peace when there is unforgiveness in your heart..so I forgave them..

So there ya got it..pretty good book..Makes you think about those little foxes that try to steal the grapes.

God bless,
C7

I think I've read almost every positive thinking book written, and it's helped me a lot. Even though I've been a project manager for a thousand years or so, I still read publications on ProjectManagement, nothing wrong with trying to be the best you can be.

Tom Peters is one of my favorites.

I agree Rev..they help you look at yourself objectively and not subjectively..this particuliar book actually gives formulas and exercises to practice..and surprizingly enough they do work.

This book is especially great for those Christians who have a hard time believing that God loves them or for those who are stuck in a rut or those who beat themselves up..For me..all of the above.BUT I'm coming out of it....

I read it many years ago and came away with mixed emotions about its purpose and content. Here is an example of what I remember of its message.

I mean folks it may sound silly but I was planning to do my best today..and my down fall sometimes starts with entertaining thoughts like these...

Doing our best is great, as long as our best is being entrusted into Gods hands, and not trusting in self to do "our best". Our best, isn't faith in Him, it is trusting in ones own strengh to get the "victory". The weapons of our warefare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds, casting down imaginations and every high thing, bringing then into the obedience of Christ.
"Mind over matter" isn't faith in the blood of the slain Lamb. We are not greater than he that is in the world! He that IS IN US, is greater. It is NOT in man that walketh to direct his steps, but the steps of a good man is ordered of the Lord. We walk not by sight, but by faith. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the way of death.
Just do the best you can=failure every time because it is anchored in the ability of self to work ones way through the trying times. That results in Jesus being demoted from the position ofpilot of our ship to the rank of co-pilot of our ship. When the going gets tough, self will step in and bring things under control.
This may sound tough, but it is true. Dead men have no lusts. Dead men carry no hatred. Dead men have no envy, are not jealous, tell no lies, do no evil, ect. Faith in God is a death to self. Sin is a result of a living self. When we deal with living sin and crucify the old man, we are made to realize that without him, we can do NOTHING. With him we can do all things.
IMO the book promotes trust in self and its abilities, and doesn't promote true faith in God.

Doing our best is great, as long as our best is being entrusted into Gods hands,AND being a Spirit filled beleiver you should think the best of your brother or sister..this book as I said before leads one to trust God..Sure ..his 1953 terminology may be different than ours but if one gives the writer the benefit of the doubt..you can easily see where this pastor is coming from.

and not trusting in self to do "our best". Our best, isn't faith in Him, it is trusting in ones own strengh to get the "victory". The weapons of our warefare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds, casting down imaginations and every high thing, bringing then into the obedience of Christ.
And what is quoting scripture?..is that carnal or spiritual.?.and what is prayer..is this not carnal or spiritual..Alas..but I 'll tell you what carnal is..it's one who loves to stir up divisions and strife..that is carnal and Solomon tells us it's one of the 7 things that God hates. I would say a writer whose sole purpose is to comit folks to prayer and the Word is alright in my book..

"Mind over matter" isn't faith in the blood of the slain Lamb. We are not greater than he that is in the world! Again..you are only reading what you want to read..you are giving into that negative voice..the accuser of the brethren..I said today I meditated on the 23rd Psalm..that is Spiritual..John 6:63.."My Words are spirit and they are life."

He that IS IN US, is greater. It is NOT in man that walketh to direct his steps, but the steps of a good man is ordered of the Lord. We walk not by sight, but by faith. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the way of death.

Jesus is the Word..every page of that book has scripture in leads one to trust God
This may sound tough, but it is true. Dead men have no lusts. Dead men carry no hatred. Dead men have no envy, are not jealous, tell no lies, do no evil, ect. And dead men don't accuse their brothers nor cause divisions neither can a dead man be rude . Being dead is a daily walk..{ taking up your cross daily}dead men wouldn't be on this computer ..trust me..dead men would be doing the will of God..not wasting time on here..seems like we al got some dying to do..I know I'm not perfect so I don't judge you so why doth thou judge me..you certainly aren't perfect either..but their is nothing wrong with taking the councel of a writer/ brother if he can enlighten one to the snares of the enemy.

Faith in God is a death to self. Sin is a result of a living self. When we deal with living sin and crucify the old man, we are made to realize that without him, we can do NOTHING. With him we can do all things.
IMO the book promotes trust in self and its abilities, and doesn't promote true faith in God.

And certianly you are welcome to your opinion..It's truly not a perfect book..there is no perfect book outside of the Bible..and there is no perfect man outside of God and his Son Jesus..But there are many nuggets to glean from those pages..

My Summary..the book is mostly about the following verses..
Phil..4:8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 2526 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me"”everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.[/color]
