Looking for some good verses...to stand up against the enemy..
Remember how Jesus used scripture to overcome Satan during his 40 day fast..Matthew 4
What are some good verses to use when you do your best in something and you fail [&o][&o]and you feel like Job..[&o][&o]when the "Accuser of the Brethren says see it's because you have sin in your life."?[&o][:-][:@]
Example....you do your best to call a turkey in..and then miss.[&o]
or you got your outboard perfect until you get it on the lake..[&o]
However; we are Christians and we don't want these things to rob our joy ..so everyone give me their 'Go to verse 'when stuff like this happens..Here's mine.
Habakkuk 3:17Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: 18Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Also..
Psalm 23..1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
And..one of my all time favorites..
Luke 12:15And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Hebrews 13:5-6 "Let your conduct be without covetousness, and be content with such things that you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you, nor forsake you,' so that we may boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me.'" (emphasis mine)

ok Alex ..one on the same lines..This one may get first prize..
1 Timothy 6"6But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
If Alex can quote the New Testament, It only proves that Gods word is eternal. Though it be fulfilled, it is not destroyed. It is still scripture. It is still the word that God spoke by the mouth of his prophets and is profitable for doctrine.
Here is a powerful, yet oft overlooked passage. Go read it least I mistype a word and you lose part of the blessing. Psalms 27:1-14 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? V2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat my flesh, they stumbled and fell. V3 Though an host shall encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war shall rise against me, in this will I be confident. V4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. V5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. V6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord. V7 Hear,O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy upon me and answer me. V8 When thou saidest, Seek ye my face, Lord, will I seek. V9 Hide not thy face far from me; put not away thy servanr in anger: Thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. V10 When my mother and my father forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. V11 Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path. because of mine enemies. V12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses have arisen upagainst me, and such as breath out cruelty. V13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. V14 Wait upon the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
What verse would you use if you was out chasing bears and your best dog for no good reason just dropped dead..??I'm sure you would be disappointed..whatis your verse for that..
Actually last week when I missed my turkey the Lord comforted me with this word.. "In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
Now I also thought about that one..from job..then I thought how wrong Job was..God did not take that stuff away..Satan..took that stuff away..
To my understanding the old Jewish mind set was ALL things {Good and Bad}come from God ..thus why Job spoke thus..
I think the past prosperity doctrine { 1970s till present }has done the Christian faith alot of harm..for whenever something bad happens they tend to think God is doing it and the Christian and God's fellowship are hampered..thus the real reason for this post
To awaken the Christian to the cold hard fact..we all go through tough times and we need to put our faith and trust in God's Word during times of disappointment , sickness etc..and not our feelings.
Thanks for responding brother,
Chuck7

23 Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the way, young lads came out from the city and mocked him and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead!" 24 When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty-two lads of their number. 25 And he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria. LOL
