Default Any you brothers or sisters huntng turkeys?

Our season in central Floria started last Sat..
I'm still in the learning phase althoughI got one last year..

Last Sat. I got lost..I took the wrong trail..I still set up and let out a series of 3 yelps and to my surprize from far awayI heard the gobbling of a gobbler..Another hunter started yelping and the gobbling stopped.

I walked to another place and got an answer but that bird was hung up too..I took tomorrow off to hunt another spot in which I saw some nice birds during deer season..

Lessons learned..
After talking with the HNI turkey crew I think I was yelping too much..I need to stop yelping after 2 series of yelps and wait..If the gobbler gets close I plan to use the leaf scatching and cutting./ purring

Hey,
If you guys have any tips on getting turkeys to come in ..please let me know..

Here's what I've got so far frm reading..

Crystal calls are the longest..which is true..I have The Freak..which works great but is not forgiving if you make a mistake.

I also have a nice slate call...and those are more quieter thus forgiving

I also learned the scatching of leaves are deadly when the turkey gets with in 70 yds,,It's a 1,,2,,3,, scratch as the turkey scrathes in patterns of 3.

Finally ..play hard to get ..don't over call..you may not want to read your Bible while waiting as the turkey;s eye sight is awesome but try to find a way to sit still at least one hour after you hear him gobble the last time.

Any other tips..???

My shotgun shoots awesome ..I got about 200# 4s in the kill zone at 30 yds..I was using the 870 mag shooting Remngton Nitro { 10.00 a box at Walmart} 3 inch magnum with Tru Glo turkey choke.

I shot the 3 1/2 Winchesters and nearly broke my mmiddle finger and laid me on my back..I was in the kneeling position and it laid me backwards..I couldn't hear for about 5 minutes..The pattern was ok but not as good as the Nitros .I also installed the Gobble Dot sites on it.WOW!! That makes a huge difference.50.00 green backs though[&o]

C7,

I probably won't this year. Our season in Indiana doesn't open until the last week of April anyway. Watch out for them snakes down there brother. I can't imagine hunting where you got all those creepy-crawlers. Freaks me out just thinking about it. Remember Paul on the island of Malta!!

Blessings.....Pastorjim

Yes sir..I got a good pair of snake boots..It's not really as bad as some think it is..We've had a drought and there is harly any water..I will be hunting a secret water hole tomorrow though where I saw some very big turkeys during white tail season..I saw them alot and heard them rousting alot..I hope they are still there..if not I got a good run and gun place.
