What do you think the meaning of the below is ? It was the centerpiece of the message on Sunday's service. What was given didn't sit right in my mind and i want to see what ya'll think.
the passage in particular
Mark 10:46-52 46Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" 48Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 49Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you." 50Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. 51"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see." 52"Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
in full context of MAT 10
[blockquote] 1Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. 2Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" 3"What did Moses command you?" he replied. 4They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." 5"It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. 6"But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 7'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." 10When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." 13People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." 16And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. 17As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 18"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone. 19You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'" 20"Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy." 21Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." 22At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" 24The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 26The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?" 27Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." 28Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!" 29"I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields--and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. 31But many who are first will be last, and the last first." 32They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33"We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise." 35Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask." 36"What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. 37They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory." 38"You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?" 39"We can," they answered. Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, 40but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared." 41When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." 46Then they came to Jericho.

Before I cover the text you listed, I would like to cover one very important item. Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem where He would be crucified. Mark 10:32 states that Jesus was in the lead knowing that He would soon be sacrificed for the sins of those who are true believers. Jesus submitted to the will of the Father and carried out Their salvationplan willingly and not grudgingly.
The blind would most likelynot be able to perform a labor to earn enoughmoney for a livingso they quite often ended up as beggars. Beggars would position themselves in an area where there was a lot of traffic. The beggarcontinual crying out to Jesus and refusing to besilenced by the crowd shows the humility of the beggar, the need of the beggarand the beggar's knowlegde that he needed Jesus. Jesus will answer to those who truly seek Him in humility. The beggar referred to Jesus as my Master (Rabboni) in Mark 20:51. Many scholars agree that Mark 10:52 "Go your way, your faith has made you well"indicates not just a physical healing but also the beggar's spiritual eyeshad beenopened. After he was healed, the beggar followed Jesus on the road.
I'll tell ya what pilgrim,
I havn't had my morning Bible study yet..so I 'll use your chapter ..I will be using the King James..and simply comment on verses as I go through..My comments will be in blue.
First of all you messed us up..It's not Matthew 10 but rather Mark 10,,I can see already we are dealing with the subject of divorse.
Mark 10
1And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again. Seems Jesus taught people where ever He went
2And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. The Pharisees..royal pain in the necks..tempting JesusThier question..was about is it lawful to divorse
3And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? Amen...Jesus always refers ..What does the Word say.??and we can apply that to our present day..it boils down not to what do I think but what saith the scriptures.
4And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. OK something very powerful and spiritual happens within a marriage..See the end of Ephesians 5.
9What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. AMEN
10And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. ..ok ..disciples still were not clear..I mean Moses had apeared to say it was ok..so what are you saying Master..??
11And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. Yikes..[&o]
12And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery. Yikes..[&o] OK..and then the subject changes. after verse 12 so let's stay here within 1-12..obvioulsy this was the message that got the folks swirming.[8D]..so let's hit on this one.since I've been divorced..
Mine happened while I was in my first semester at Bible school. My wife was unfaithful yet my Assembly of God school beleifs at that time a pastor can't remarry in this instance.. So we have some questions.. a. Is divorce the unpardonable sin? NO! b. Is there any amongst us without sin? NO! Before I married my 2nd wife I fasted a couple of days because this very portion of scriptures ate me up..The Lord led me to.. James 2:10 For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God"s laws. 11 For the same God who said, "You must not commit adultery," also said, "You must not murder."[ So if you murder someone but do not commit adultery, you have still broken the law. 12 So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free. 13 There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.
In Summary...we have all sinned..if you live in love and mercy you will recieve mercy.."Walk in the light as He is in the light and the blood of Christ shall cleanse you from ALL sin. Have a Jesus filled day. C7
This church is moving, the facilities they used are closing. Through a chain of event, they've rented a nice 3500 sf space for about 1/2 what the normal rent would be, a sign was donated to them, paint was given if the manpower would be there to repaint the place ... a breka on carpet installations etc etc.
So the message way basically if you want something, ask for it and God will give it to you - aka a new building, carpet, signs, paint, chairs .... and this scripture was used as a way to say hey, see what happened to Batimaeus? Jesus asked him what he wanted, and he said what he wanted and was given it.
That doesn't set well with me for some reason. The Bible, Jesus, God and the Christian faith isn't about what God can do for you, is it? Its not about you getting worldly rewards and material things, is it? It is about humility, and being served last instead of first, and elevating everyone around you instead of you, serving instead of being served .... right ?
But this scripture is contrary to that - why ?
All I can really come up with as I try to wrap my mind around this is that its a lesson on Faith and healing - its not suppose to be about what Bartimaues wanted, or about asking and recieving....
