Lent starts in less than two weeks. A lot of people have a tradition of giving something up as a reminder that this is a time of penitence. I'm trying to think of something. We have certain fast and abstinence days but I'm exempt from those. I'd like to do something that I shouldn't do for my own good anyway. (Like spending less time on HNI .)

I heard Jesus He drank wine and I bet we'd get along just fine.
Do you have any vices? Not talking sin here, I don't want to get into anyone's personal issues, but something like a daily Starbucks, cigar (yes girls smoke cigars), Mountain Dew, etc?
I gave up caffeine one year. The headaches were horrible. -- Not that I am Catholic, but most pastors I have known have recommended observing the tradition of lent as an exercise in devotion -- assuming it's done with prayer, meditation, etc.

'course you could become a Baptist and give up everything for ever!!
Now I get it you are a comedian. All this time I have thought you may be serious in your posts but you are really a comedian. Is everything you post a joke?
The tradition to "give up something for lent" is really about adding some discipline to your life as a preperation for the celebration of EASTER. If you really like chocolate then you can "give up chocolate" and every time you have the opportunity to have it you say "no, this is my small sign Lord, that I will sacrifice something as You sacrificed Your life for me".
Thats the way I see it.
When ever I have an opportunity to complain about something, I will say nothing or something posative. I will give up complaining.

I haven't for a few reasons, rather than giving up something I strive to be a better person. Help out a bit more. My number one pet peave for lent is giving up cursing, drinking, or something of the sort. It just personally rubs me the wrong way.

I think the subtle point is, some people try to live that way all the time, not just one season out of the year, so they poke some fun at the idea of lent -- just some speculation on my part...
