Betty was visiting Harriet in the assisted living center. Harriet had become frail a few years earlier when she moved into her late 80"s, and she no longer could attend church. Betty asked, "Harriet, how are you doing this week?"
Harriet replied, "Considering I"m 93, I feel pretty good! But I"m lonely sometimes. Other than my niece, you"re about the only one who ever comes to see me. I"ve outlived most of my family and friends. I especially miss going to church on Sunday mornings. I really enjoyed the music and the fellowship- and loved Pastor Tom"s sermons."
How should Betty respond to Harriet"s concern about missing church? How would you have responded to her? Even as a devout believer, how can she discover fresh hope?
As you study this lesson, you will explore ways to experience God and the hope He offers-even when you are overwhelmed by difficult circumstances. Studying Psalms 42-43 will remind you of God"s presence in your life and give you a fresh perspective.
Focal Verses
Psalm 42:1-43:5
What This Lesson Is About
This lesson is about finding God"s presence, love, and direction for fresh hope and joyful living. In Psalms 42 and 43, the psalmist related his quest for fresh hope and amid dire circumstances.
Why This Lesson Is Important
Sometimes adults feel overwhelmed by their circumstances. They"re overextended financially and the bills have come due-or they"re getting trampled in the rat race of life. Maybe health problems have piled up, or family relationships have broken down. Some adults never become satisfied; with all the stuff they own they still feel utterly empty inside. And even in a crowd they feel alone, afraid, and sad. Joy has eluded them, and they wonder if they"ll ever be happy again.
How This Lesson Can Impact Your Life
By studying these two psalms, you will be better able to identify with those who feel overwhelmed by their circumstances. You"ll discover that in God"s presence, love, and direction lies fresh hope for joyful living.

Live Life in such a way that those who do not know Christ will come to know Him because they know you
Thanks Reb I shall re-read these probably tomorrow.
The beginning reminded me of when I worked in a Nursing Home. And when I helped care for my grandma during my school vacations. My grandma was on oxygen and it was very hard for her to leave her apartment so she couldn't go to church, every Sunday she watched sermons for as long as they were on. She missed the fellowship and the extension of Christ's love through a hand shake or a hug. It was many years later that I came to Christ and understood that desire and yearning.
