At what stage in human evolution did we develop a redeemable soul? Are there Neanderthals in heaven? Cro-Magnon?

While I accept natural selection (evolution)as the best explanation for the diversity of speciesI do not have a clear idea of what a soul is. So I'll have to pass on the question. (Unless by soul you are, in fact, referring to B.B. King, etc.)

SOUL"“noun
1. the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part.
2. the spiritual part of humans regarded in its moral aspect, or as believed to survive death and be subject to happiness or misery in a life to come: arguing the immortality of the soul.
3. the disembodied spirit of a deceased person: He feared the soul of the deceased would haunt him.

I know the definition. But I don't know what a soul actually is.

Interesting question, I don't believe anyone but GOD knows the answer. But i think you are right that at some point in the evolution of "man" GOD created the soul of man and placed it into man making him different from all other animals.

Question, and it may com from left field, but if this thread progresses, it may make for some good discussion...
If a modern doctor were on the scene to examine Adam, five seconds after he was created, would he determine that Adam had gone through puberty in his lifetime (assume the doctor has no idea that Adam was just created)?
