Exodus 20:8-11: "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."
I milk cows for a living the wording "nor thy cattle" made me wonder. I cant milk for one day thats hard on the cows. Even myself I am working as well. Even though dont work as hard on sundays. Any thoughts and ideas on this.

deerhunter; Sabbath = a rest.Jesus said "come unto me and I will give you rest"
Is He your rest, or is a day of the calander week your rest.
The levitical sabbath was a type and shadow, but the fulness was Christ. I am complete in him who is the head of all things. The righteousness of the law is fulfilled in us, who through a "New Birth" are the seed of Abraham through faith and joint heirs with Christ. We are the prophesied ones who have the Spirit of the law, written in our hearts, just as God wrote the Mosaic with his own finger on the tables of stone. What the law written on stone could not do, is fulfilled in us through the Spirit of God which dwells within.
Under the covanant in stone, one had to commit the act. Under the law written in the heart, one only has to harbor the thought and he is guilty already. Through Jesus the requirements of the sacrificial law were all met when He tasted death for all mankind. Through his death, I now live, yet not I but Christ liveth in me.
The new man who is created in righteousness and true holiness, can only live after the death of the old carnal man is acomplished. One puts off the old before he can put on the new. That which is carnal is first, then that which is Spiritual. Marvel not that I say unto you "Ye must be born again". Except a man be born again, of water and Spirit, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.
It's funny, I read the very same verse from the NIV today! The Lord never rests but the weary can find rest in him! I LOVE the song Moses people sang to the Lord after the sea crushed Pharoh and his officers. It is amazing to me that the Lord hardened the Pharoh's heart so that he could destroy him. It just goes to show you that if you put your faith into the Lord that he is the ALMIGHTY WARRIOR and he WILL redeem you!
It is always good to work hard for the Lord but Sunday is a great day to go to church and to rejoice in the LORD!
If you all Pay attention to Mosesmessage on Mount Sinai, he said "God had Given the LAW To Those present here today and only them and their descedants, The Law was not even given to their ancestors even Abraham ".
So why would a gentile whose ancestors were not in mount Sinai or Egypt, be concerned with the Law ?
LEV 27 34These are the commandments which the LORD commanded Moses for the sons of Israel at Mount Sinai.

"Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy" is the only one of the 10 Commandments not re-stated in one way or another to Christians in the New Testament. If I recall correctly, the Sabbath was Saturday, not Sunday--that's why 7th Day Aventists worship on Saturday.

Chad; Where have you been brother? I'v missed your posts lately, as well as those of Turkey Fife.
Hebrews 4:1-11 Paul speaking of the Old and the New covanents, of the Jews who had the gospel preached unto them, and us gentiles who also had the gospel preached as well unto us. Those of the Old entered not. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day, (Sabbath). There remaineth therfore a rest, (Sabbath) to the people of God. He has taken out of the gentiles a people for his name sake. Let us gentiles who are fellow-heirs with the seed of Abraham, who are not Jews outwardly, but inwardly, labour therefore to enter into that rest, or Sabbath. Come unto me all ye, (Jews & Gentiles) who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest, (sabbath).
Why would only 90% of the righteousness of the law be fulfilled in us, (New Testament believers) and 10% never be fulfilled?
You guys laugh but I am being serious here. Just trying to be a better person. I believe should try and take one day out of the week and worship. Heck Jesus work on the sabbath and the Jews back then didnt like it back then am I right?

I don't think anyone is laughing. It should be possible to do what you need to do for the cows and devote the rest of the day to activities appropriate to theGod oriented life.

I heard Jesus He drank wine and I bet we'd get along just fine.
What about the Priest He did most of his work on the Sabbath. Our preacher does the Most of his work on the Lord's Day(which is Sunday the First day of the Week)
KB is right the Sabbath was for the Jews! And on top of that the Law has been done away. We don't serve the Oldness of the Letter but the Newness of the Spirit.
Snooky... good to be back glad I was missed. I thought LBR had it covered here
