I in the middle of a long distance argument with someone. They claim that the true Christian response to someone who is openly committing a major sin and is non-repentant about it is one of forgiveness and non-confrontation. However, I seem to recall many instances from the New Testament where the Apostles and Christ were pretty aggressive in confronting people about things like blasphemy and idolatry. But, I can remember any specific examples or passages. Any help?

Well, they do need to repent but you cannot force it upon them. It is up to them to walk away from what they have and to follow Jesus. You came to the right place, I maybe putting them on the spot but there is lots of great advice and scripture that they can point out to you.

I know what you mean they do try to hide behind that excuse and use it as a tactic to cut you off from them, but rememember, Jesus even though he always hung out with the wrong crowd, never tried to force the truth upon anyone. All that we can do is spread God's word with LOVE and pray that he keeps throwing olive branches their way because only the good Lord Jesus Christ can save them. They have to open themselves up to him. We should be very careful not to push them away. Keep praying for them and always remember his two greatest commandments!
