Hey fellows,
Last week I sensed the Lord telling me where to move my stand...I thought I missed God and instead of moving it 100 yds as told..I moved it 67 by a swamp..100 would put me right at the edge near a clearing..Well, last week right at the edge I saw a 200 pound hog walk by slowly..Oh me of little faith.

So I set up at the 100yd...and forgot to tack my tree..This morning..it' took me an extra 15 minutes sweating to find my tree.[:@].I leftall calls home and felt led to sit to 10:00 AM,,,I was dozing off because I got up at 1;30AM .I.couldn't sleep. I started watching a gray squirrel hopping from tree to tree..and at 9 :20 AM I heard a little movement in back but underneath my stand..I took a peek..[:-][:-][:-]one, two , three, four , five does were just there. The wind was perfect and they didn't smell me..That certainly encouraged me..cause I was planning on moving my stand..I'm going back to morrow moring to do a little grunting..At, 10:00 I heard more scratching and I saw 3 more does within 20 yds..The first deer were with in 5 yds. Hey , I only saw 9 the entire season last year..I am really pumped..Our rut starts in Dec.

I pick up my wife tomorrow at 12;00....If I get a deer { Correct me if I'm wrong} I'll be in a big hurry..

A.I plan to wrap it in a tarp to keep the dirt out..drag it to my truck..

B,While I hang it for the Game Wardens at the check station.. Skin it..quarter it...cut all 4 loins our and rib meat..put it i na baggie.

C, Put each qyarter in it's own trashh bag..put in cooler.

D, Drive 10 miles to Circle K ...buy bags of ice and fill up cooler..

E. drive home..put cooler in shed..turnto 60 degrees

F. Driveto Tampa..pick up wife..

G. Come home and one 1/4 at a time process meat..

My cooler already has baggies and a hacksaw in it...

Sound ok??

I've never used a tarp and never had any problem with dirt in my deer, just an extra thing to carry, and I'm already carrying everything I own in the woods it seems!

B,While I hang it for the Game Wardens at the check station.. Skin it..quarter it...cut all 4 loins our and rib meat..put it i na baggie.

I'm especially careful to get out the tenderloins and backstraps. All 4 quarters are taken inside to remove the meat from the bone - we grind most of ours except for some steaks and a few roasts. I used to get out the rib meat, but it tends to bind up my grinder and when it gets through it's like having bubble gum in your ground meat, so I'm very choosy now about anything with much gristle or silverskin in it.

C, Put each qyarter in it's own trashh bag..put in cooler.

I don't separate them. Make sure you get ice around them . . . or at least keep them cool.

D, Drive 10 miles to Circle K ...buy bags of ice and fill up cooler..

Oh, I see you're already thinking of that!

E. drive home..put cooler in shed..turnto 60 degrees

Or lower. 37 degrees should be perfect!

F. Driveto Tampa..pick up wife..

G. Come home and one 1/4 at a time process meat

I wash each piece thoroughly before processing and again before placing in bowls to be ground. Sounds like you're off to a decent start. I've just added some of the things I do which work for me.

Thanks Dave,

Another question for ya..or any other deer hunters. If you have a promicing spot..How often would you hunt it?How often would you hunt Spot #1?

I have 4 spots..

Spot 1 very good best wind..when blowing from east to west
Spot 2.good best wind when blowing from east to west
Spot 3.ok .........best wind when blows from west to east
Spot 4.ok ........best no wind at all ;deer can approach from any angle
Thanks Dave,

Around these parts (and much of the country), the predominant wind is out of the west making Spot 3 your best choice for most days. However, you can probablyget away with hunting spots 1 & 2 in a cross-wind situation as well (north-south either direction). Knowing the normal direction of travel for mornings/evenings in your area can also help determine how to overcome wind direction (sometimes) by just moving to the other side of the trail.

As for how often to hunt a spot . . . I usually won't hunt from the same tree consistently for more than an evening and following morning under normal conditions. Far after you have left and gone home for the night, deer are walking around your stand and picking up scent and so forth that indicates you were recently there. Continuing to give them this clue and they'll leave the area alone . . . at least during daylight hours. I rotate spots, considering wind direction and my best chances, and try not to hunt from the same tree more than once every couple weeks. That's not always possible - esp if the spot is hot right now, but under normal conditions, that's how I do it. I have a number of spots like spot 4 as well. Be as scent-free as is humanly possible (I try to do that everytime anyway) and set-up as best you can given the wind direction. I believe that having a wind is better than having no wind since completely calm, windless conditions allow your scent to drop straight down and spread out in all directions messing up all directions for you. Good luck!
