Good morning Fred,
Fred , as I read your post throughout all the other forums..I see that you are lonely my friend. You are also young and growing up in a much tougher generation IMHO than the rest of us. I feel sorry for ya..The best thing you can do is get into a Bible and prayer habit..You will find Jesus is very real and will bless you more than you can imagine..once you search Him with your heart and not your head.
Back to the original post. Christians have a 6th sense called discernment. When someone uses the word "Jeez Loueeze" to me that is slang for using Jesus' name in vain..and I generally don't fellowship with such anymore.I'm chooseywith the friends in whom I hang with..
Once when I was without a boat I got a hook up with 2 fellows to fish with in their boat. They constantly used God's name in vain.. I said," I don't appreciate you talking about my Father like that." They said ,"I really don't care." I said,"Pull the boat on the shore." It was a long walk back to my home.and I hitch hiked home.
Look what Jesus says about words.. Matthew 12:34bfor out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Fred, choose your friends well..for a man is known by the company he keeps. I don't have alot of friends but the ones I do have are worth their weight in gold.
God bless,
Chuck7
while i agree with what chuck is telling you i'll add, articulate people will garner more respect from every day people in every walk of life, if i see a person ranting and raiving i have developed the opinion that they are either an idiot or have very low educational background...
use your words wisely, it is a reflection of who you are

Fred,
I'm pretty sure you mean cursing?
What comes out of our mouths should glorify God. If there is any question about it, then don't say it.
In Ephesians Chapter 4 it tells us to 'speak the truth in love, we will grow up into Him who is the head, that is Christ.'You can't go wrong with that in mind.
Maybe you do this already, but, if you don't...read a scripture or two a day to fill your heart with His thoughts and words. Then your mouth will speak what is on your heart. "As a man speaks, so is he"

Well said! We've become a society of explicitness. It can't be cold outside, it has to be colder than a ---- and a -----.. It's a habit a lot of get in to, Igot stuck on "holy cow" for a while. It's nothing more than a habit of slang, which normally does not bring glory to God. Now out right foul language is not only a sin, but rude, crude and shows our intelligence, or lack thereof.
It stems from habit, I broke three fingers on my left hand in the mid 80's, and I started screaming "Glory to God" "hallelujah, thank you Jesus" believe it or not, I used some ice cream sticks for splints and went back to work, and when I got home they were fine.
I always took the prohibition on using the Lord's name in vain as meaning you shouldn't
a) swear to something you know is false
b) use it cynically to gain advantage with the faithful the way you'll hear some politicians do
Being Catholic, I wasn't frown on euphemisms like "gosh." So I'd say they're okay with me.
The best rule to follow is this: You are descended from Adam, and have an innate understanding of right and wrong - if it feels wrong, you shouldn't do it.
Were you really praising God for allowing you to break your fingers and thus bring glory to His name or were you just substituting God's name for what you really wanted to say because of the pain you were in. If so, you must really be holy, but if not, you were still taking the name of our Lord in vain. It's not the words, but the spirit in which they are said.
We must be careful not to become legalists, because even as Christians, we are being saved by grace.
Soli Deo Gloria.
