Does the scripture say what what words should be placed over the door of the building, or on the sign in front of the chosen place of worship?
I ministered to a assembly in Houston that simply had "The Church" on the building. I think that would be the most common phrase used in the scripture. Must we use some other phrase to identify an assembly from the rest of "The Church"?
Acts 12:5 Acts 20:28, 1 Cor10:32The church is called The Church of God.
This may be the 2nd most common referance in scripture.
Ro 16:16 we find The Churches of Christ is found.
The churches of the Gentiles, is found in Ro 16:4.
1 Thes 2:14 The Churches of God.
Heb 12:23 The Church of The Firstborn.
Whose Church is it? Isn't it the one's who purchased it? Acts 20:28 Feed the Church of GOD which HE hath purchased with HIS own blood.
Ps 69:30 What is the Name of God? Is 52:6 My people shall know MY NAME. Matt 1:21 Thou shall call his name Jesus. Phil 2:9 Name above every name that is named. Acts 4:12 none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we MUST be saved.
Father is not a name, Son is not a name, Holy Ghost is not a name, Firstborn isn't a name, Christ isn't a name, Redeemer isn't a name, Shepard isn't a name, Holy one isn't a name, Lord isn't a name, IF the name is a must, what would be the one name given that would cover all the titles and positions mentioned?
Eph:21-23 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.
Eph 3:14-15 Of whom the whole family in Heaven and earth is named.
Acts 4:12 neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we MUST be saved.
Eph 2:20 And we are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the Chief Corner Stone.
Col 1:15-19 And he is the head of the body, the Church
Eph 2:20 And we are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the Chief Corner Stone.
Col 1:15-19 And he is the head of the body, the Church
Amen brother!

Live Life in such a way that those who do not know Christ will come to know Him because they know you
I have thought about that very thing many times. Then I realize the reason for so many different names is of course there are so many different denominations!
I don't know what I would name a church if were left up to me to do so?? I'd probably call it, One of Gods' Houses. That may sound idiotic to some but knowing there are a lot of denominations that recognise God as the only true God, why couldn't it be called "One of Gods' Houses"?
Also knowing there are different ways of worshiping God is why we have different named churches. Good subject to discuss.
Good question Snooky. I guess I had never asked myself that question, if I ever come up with something I'll let you know. In the OT the temples were given different names. In the NT the only thing that let's you know there are different churches is because the letters are addressed to the city where the church was. And each church had there strengths and weaknesses. So maybe Part of the Body.
