I was up riding this weekend in West Virginia. Hundreds of miles of ATV trails winding through the mountains and ridges. Well, me and a friend of mine headed out for another day of riding monday morning. We were looking for a specific place based on directions from a another rider. we rode and rode and rode.We could not find the place we were looking for, andWe didnt know where we were, and gas was getting low.
I had a handheld GPS and I trusted that thing with our lives. Instead of turning around and going back the 15 or so miles thatwe had just rode to get to where we were, according to the GPS we were only 3 miles from Camp. so we decided it would be rediculous to drive all the way back when we were so close. So we hit another trail and got within .3 of a mile from camp.... problem was, we were on the bottom of the mountain and camp was at the top... with no trail leading to it. so we rode and rode and rode. Gas is at a minimum, and we each have 1.5 gallon with us for emergency.
At this point after about 30 miles or so of riding... we were lost. No cell phone service no idea of how to get to where we wanted to be. My stomach was in knots, and i was just saying those panic prayers over and over in my head. Thought of leaving our atv's outta gas and attemping to hike up the mountain to an empty monday campsite. or worse as being stranded in the middle of the woods for days. (we did have plenty of water).
Then i just kinda took a deap breathe, and told myself... God gonna take care of you, you just gotta have faith. And no joke, around the next curve in the trail set a red GMC Jimmy with two guys on a lunch break... we stopped and got the directions to camp and made it back without having to use our reserve gas. We were only about 5-6 miles away, but we had to wrap around the ridege and over to another to get there.
And I set here and think... if it hadnt have been Monday, those guys wouldnt have been out there cutting timber. Things couldve been so much worse. That empty feeling of being lost... wow. unlike any other. Thankyou Lord for getting me outta there.
If you guys wanna see the positive side to all this I gotta thread in the bowhunting if it hasnt been moved yet.
But it is so amazing, just that little burst of faith, and relying on God instead of a man made mechanical device made all the difference.
