Default A witnessing opportunity...

Hi all.
Here at my summer internship, I work with a guy that"s a Vietnam vet. He went to college and some postgraduate school. He"s reads a lot and is into art. I also hear about his friends that were former thieves and other shady business deals. He thinks highly of himself and often tells me how stupid everyone else here is, etc.

Well, he"s had multiple heart attacks, and had an episode yesterday that"s prompted some discussion of life after death.

He told me about all the junk he saw in the war, and how he was sexually abused by both his parents" "and people say there is a God?? Where was he when that was happening to me?? He loves me?? Where was he in Vietnam? There are so many idiots that think there"s a God while there are people killing others every day in the middle east for this God"etc."

So, I ask you all:
How have you been able to point others like this to Christ and God"s LOVE? That God would permit suffering and such evil appears to be his main problem, but he is all-around hardened by 60+ years of struggling. I fear my choice of words and approach in future conversations with him. I will continue to do my best in praying for him and showing him love, but how may a 21 year old best give direction to a guy boldly expressing that he doesn"t want it?

You can read every book in the Library, but if you refuse to believe what you have read, you have accomplished nothing!

Ask him if he willjoin you ina prayer and for him to say, " Lord I accept you as My Savior"...Tell him, if he believes it's not true, than he has nothing lose.

When he mentioned "JUNK", is he referring to "Substance Abuse" which will work on your heart! And God knows there was a Ton of it everyday.[8D]

Not only was it physical, but could be life time mental thing...He should find it in his heart to forgive them for they were Sick mentalparents and not having any faith orguidence of any kind.....Degenerates!

Where was he in Vietnam?
WOW........55,000 didn't make back!.........Didn't it make him wonder or does he believe in his rabbit's foot?[8D]

I think it's important to understand that it is the Spirit and not our words that inspires people to come to the Faith. I can tell you from my own experience that I had no religious training or experience beyond being baptized right after I was born. But of course I had heard all the stories about hell and and all. I really had no interest. But when I met my husband, it seemed to me that he had something. He never tried to convince me though. I asked him if I could go to mass with him and it just went on from there. Pretty much the same thing happened with my mother. She got married for the first time last summer and she just started attending mass with her husband who is a really great guy. We were both confirmed at Easter, in different parishes though.

Two kids in my group at school asked me some stuff about being Christian because the way I was acting interested them. I just told them about how I felt and the next thing I knew, they told me that they had started attending church. (Baptist) They had been to the Baptist Church, sunday school and all as kids, but had pretty much abandoned it. But they saw a reason to return.

So all I can suggest is that you let your light shine and let the Spirit work.

There is your answer. Words mean little, it's the life we live that preaches the message people hear.
Jesus said, "let your light so shine that men may SEE your good works, and glorify God". That they may see, Not hear.
Again ye are light of the world, not the sound of the world.
Witnessing with words is great and none of us do enough of it. But if the life doesn't confirm the speach, we are as sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal

On the little I know, I would say everyone is giving good advise...That being said it appears he discussed life after death. If he discussed it and he had a episode that made him think, I believe I would pursue that line of talk.
It seems he knows all about worldly shortcomings. Just a idea.

The Spirit will help and guide you also.
